Did you knock down the grid stopper values for the 6V6's? They are hidden under the heater wires.

No I kept them the grid stoppers the same. I actually think I used 3K3 instead. It’s not an exact clone by any means.

You should try an alnico cream/gold in there, lighter and they sound great.

Actually and IMO the 2nd generation layout I did is without question the most accurate representation of all the different model ODS's posted in the files section. Although I cannot divulge the party's involved it actually came from 3 separate sources that AFAIK carry extensive knowledge regarding these amps and have not only just been in seen owned or worked on but have had personal experiences with many if not most of them both in the US as well as Europe. So it was not just me that did them as I was simply the stenographer documenting what info they provided and will always be grateful for there contribution to TAG!.
BTW. The 2nd Gen amp was a cast out, a refugee from the later 4th and 5th gen's. Most people were searching for the Robben/Larry tones and therefore not much interest was given to these amps early on. It really wasn't until Brandon (Bludotone) and myself ( and I think Jelle) started building them posting clips and going hey ahhh over here!! that these amps finally caught fire and just about everyone that builds them now loves them.

Tony, that makes sense. It took a while for me to gel with mine, but I love it now. It likes volume, and it cut's through a band/mix nicely. It's probably not as sweet in isolation as the later amps but in context it's lovely.

Neat built Taylor! Im in the process of designing my own PCB, yours took my attention and look great!
Im also one of many that started with hrm, bluesmaster, #102. But 2nd gen design was coming home
for me. With separate masters in 2nd gen, like Hrm, you have best of both worlds.

I agree! It took a while for me to gel with mine loaded with an AT as well. The 2nd Gen's have there place in a working musicians arsenal and when used in the right application it's hard to find anything that compares to that sound and feel. I compare it to driving an AMG Mercedes at 30 Mph just having all that power and punch in reserve. You ask for it and it's there with no farting over compressing latency or a decrease in bandwidth almost invariably has to increase touch sensitivity as well a more organic interaction between you and the tubes.This IMO has to make you play differently.
You also have to remember back in the 70's Volume was something we needed playing live. Everybody played LOUD!. So IMO Dumble used that to his advantage to not have to baby proof his designs and could design them to run more open without having to add any extra volume controls or Masters!. Ken Fisher (Trainwreck) IMO adopted the same philosophy. Simple preamp with a powerful output section. I kind of wonder why people ask why these instruments sound so good and are in such high demand.When it's really kind of obvious,

BTW.If you want to take off some edge in the 2nd Gen just add the NFB on v1B. put it on a switch..It will also sweeten up over time and abuse..A set of Black Plates help too!!

With careful mic placement the amp isn't edgy, have you heard the audio clip I posted of mine? it's not edgy at all. I think careful use of the guitar tone control is important when using a tele bridge pickup. you can actually roll off a fair amount and it still stays clear.
I still believe Volume is tone, you need to have reserve and use dynamics. your analogy of the AMG merc is spot on and winding up to do a solo is the same as putting your foot down in the merc to overtake, it's safer with power
I'm glad I stuck with it. Sometimes being able to build all these amps means you don't knuckle down and really learn one amp, I'm certainly guilty of that now at times as I have a large collection.
And of course it only goes to show that I always sound the same regardless of which amp I play!!!! LOL

#38 has black switches and #40 had red. I could have saved myself quite a few $ and used black on my build
