Ceriatone AH-50
I have an AH-50 kit build I'm working on.
Wondered if someone could talk about the various Marshall mods this amp incorporates ?
I know it's got the "Jose mod" with the extra pre-amp tube and the clipping diodes, but what all else is going on in here ?
Thanks!

I'm not going to be able to answer much, but if I could I'd appreciate having links to the schematic and/or layout of the AH-50 kit, as well as what specific amp it was based off of, i.e. plexi, 2203/2204, etc.

Not sure why, but they don't provide a schematic with the kits.pompeiisneaks wrote: ↑Tue Oct 23, 2018 4:40 pm I'm not going to be able to answer much, but if I could I'd appreciate having links to the schematic and/or layout of the AH-50 kit, as well as what specific amp it was based off of, i.e. plexi, 2203/2204, etc.

I have hi-res pics of a completed one, as well as a very detailed layout.

Re: Ceriatone AH-50
Oh on doing research it's a friedman clone, gotcha. I still am no marshall guy, don't know enough yet, I'm building my first marshall right now, so I'm still learning their topology. Peeking quickly seems like he's got a lot of switching that adds/removes stuff from the signal path to increase/decrease gain etc. on the first gain stage, but man this thing is hard to follow, I see why people have problems building his kits. labelling everything with letters and I can't find the other letter to match on half of it, instead of just showing leads running between places etc. seems the second switch allows again some switching between cathodes. but I'm not sure how that differs from a stock marshall, probably a plexi or 2203/2204 type. Seems a bit more filtering on the PI node if I'm looking right (stock is 50uF it's 100uF) I'm sure there are plenty of others I'm not seeing.

I've build and modded my 2203, but this thing is a whole other level of complexity.pompeiisneaks wrote: ↑Tue Oct 23, 2018 6:27 pm Oh on doing research it's a friedman clone, gotcha. My understanding is it's a 2204 base, with sort of the "kitchen sink" of mods in it.

I'd rather borrow money from the mafia than build that layout. The amp looks ok.
I am not a loop person. Umm.. the circuit seems overly complicated with a bunch of slight changes to commonly used values just to be.. you know how people are.
haha

People have said the loop in this kit is not very good.Reeltarded wrote: ↑Tue Oct 23, 2018 7:34 pm I'd rather borrow money from the mafia than build that layout. The amp looks ok.

I'm not an "effects loop" person either, so I may not build the loop into this amp.

Re: Ceriatone AH-50
lol..
Needs slope, treble shift, multiple bright, gain per stage.. ok.. uff res, pres.. let's see.. I used to think I was an extra stage guy, but maybe that hole is better off empty like my amps or maybe since it's in a good spot the added tube is an EF86..
Don't listen to me. I break things, on purpose!
What you need to do before you do anything else is cascade.. hey, what amp are you running into that load thingy?
You know what sounds freaking amazing? A Marshall cascaded into a Marshall. omg

My home-built 2203.

I've seen what pristine amp building looks like, so go easy on me.
Re: Ceriatone AH-50
That's a sweet 2203 and built for rock and roll. I see an empty socket though...

Do you have any other Marshall things around? Actually, output of your load into almost any tube amp. It's noisy. Smile and ride the volume knob. lol

I used to run this amp into a resistive load/line out, then into a 100W solid state amp with time-based effects in between the two amps.
That was a pretty cool sound.

Van Halen's dirty secret is that the good records were all cascaded heads.

I liked the one where the second amp was a Marshall 2003 Master PA head.Reeltarded wrote: ↑Wed Oct 24, 2018 12:26 pm Van Halen's dirty secret is that the good records were all cascaded heads.![]()

Re: Ceriatone AH-50
I asked Nik at Ceriatone about removing the loop (not a loop guy) and adding a couple of simple mods.
He answered quickly with a brief description of how to make these changes.
I sketched them up and wondered if you guys would look and see if I've understood or have made some error(s).
Thanks
omit loop from amp:

add resonance control:

add variable NFB:
