I can't believe you can hear the difference in 470 ohm and 1K screen resistors!! I can't !!

A while back I was trying to get maximum clean headroom out of the standard PI/output circuit(s). The platform was using 200ma Fender PT and Fender Prosonic 50 Watt OT. Without using my ears and just using the scope I got maximum power at 1500 to 6000 hz using the lower value screen resistors(4K7) and higher grid resistors (5K1). Once changed the amp sounded better too.... You can see the difference on a scope. Using the smallest value PI input cap you can stand also boosts clean headroom.

Did you go with 4K7 on the screens or 470R?

I see from reading other threads that, on the V1 and V2 plate resistors, the favorite type of resistor to use is the Vishay/ Dale RN65 metal film resistors.
I've looked around a bit and don't see anyplace to buy them.
You guys have a favorite parts house that carries them?
I think I can get most everything else on the tweak list locally so a Mouser order for 4 or 5 resistors would kill me on shipping.

Just Mouser. Unfortunately, the RN65Ds seem to be increasing in price. Some of the ones I ordered were $1.95 a piece. I hope they're not getting phased out.

Those are carbon comp.
The Vishay are metal film.

They were .16 two years ago. It's the lead thing. I'm just looking for whatever Dale comes up with. Soon I hope.

Oh, OK gottcha.
Funny that they don't have common values like 220K and 150K.
Price certainly is good, but you have to order a minimum of 10 of each value.
And they are in Canada.

did your tone stack wiring change the voicing of the amp? Does your PAB give you a huge vol boost on the clean channel? Is this your PAB/tonestack wiring?

For the .05uf/10meg pre-OD network,are you referring to the two 22m resistors and cap on V1B?
Does that mean a total on 10meg and a .05uf cap instead?
If that is what I think it is,you are onto something.On my first build I only had two 15megs instead of 22megs and it is clearly more focused sounding.

It's the 0.5/10Meg (to ground) just upstream of the OD pot.

You will see it in the files section under the "Tweaked D'Lite Schematic" thread by MDRoberts. He threw in a little note in that area to point it out.
