Hello all,
I have a couple of these scopes, Tektronixs 7704A Oscilloscope, floating around near me and was wondering if anyone knows anything about them? They apparently have plug-in units for different options.
Basically I just looking for a buy it or stay clear of it input, anything beyond that would be appreciated though. It just seems these are not the prefered Tektronics scopes most people here recommend and I am not sure if I will obtain any true problems with the units by just researching specs on the web.

Good quality Lab grade scope. I currently use a 7704 (non-a). The plugins are cheap on ebay but not all are in good condition. Buy several, you'll need the parts.
Plugins:
7A18 or 7A26: Good dual input plugin. 7A18-100MHz 7A26-250MHz
Use two for 4 trace display.
7A13 Comparitor plugin. Get the one with the LED readout instead of the mechanical dial. This plugin magicaly dials in a DC offset so you can look at the plate of a 12AX7 DC coupled at 10mV per div.
7A22 Pray you can find a good one. Use to look for ground noise at 1 MICROVOLT per div. Great for audio, only 1MHz bandwidth.
7A24 50 ohm inputs. Not usefull
7A11 push buttons usually broken. Relays impossible to find hard to replace.
7B80, 7B85, 7B10, 7B15, Best time bases to get. You need an x0 and x5 to do delayed sweeps.
7B92x Ok if thats all you can find but problematic. Many have problems that nobody knows how to fix. PIA
7B53a Good dual time base. Not full bandwidth but functional to 100MHz
7B70 series stay away
