Grammys BB King Tribute.

Post by LeftyStrat »

I didn't watch the Grammys but this tribute is spot on for BB King.

Thank you for sharing, Lefty. That was amazing. All we have is netflix these days, so we don't get to see this sort of programming. This was the first year I've missed the grammys in a long time.

I love the few moments each year when really memorable music is performed by talented people (doesn't happen every year), but the production this year was terrible - bad sound, cutting off great artists' acceptance speeches for commercials, the weird Adele thing (her explanation made no sense at all), etc. for 3-1/2 hours.

My youngest son is an engineer/producer for Reps Up/OVO/Sony Records in Toronto, and he told me that this is what's to be expected when most of the work is done by unpaid interns, and the industry executives seem to think that all it takes to "make music" is a kid with an iPad and a microphone.

Rant over - sorry to derail

Chris Stapleton is a wonderfully talented singer and songwriter. I've listened to his music for a few years now - since the SteelDrivers and Jompson Brothers - and I'm glad he's seeing the success he deserves from his solo work.

Here are a couple others of his from a while back for those of you that enjoy a standout singer/songwriter with unreal live chops.

No problem, Ken.

Here's a couple more you'd enjoy:

The woman harmonizing with Chris in the second video is his wife.

I downloaded the whole 2016 Grammys show from the interwebz, and my 18-y-o daughter watched the music, zipping past the boring ones. Gaga's Bowie tribute was just ok--voice fine, but physical shtick was tone deaf--though it was cool to see Nile Rodgers playing his old Strat.

The Hollywood Vampires (supergroup with GNR members, Johnny Depp, Joe Perry, Alice Cooper) tribute to Lemmy was a screechy trainwreck, but entertaining.

The best act of the night was Kendrick Lamar. I'm a fan. If you have a knee-jerk reaction to rap, get over it. His album is full of thoughtful, difficult and well performed music of many genres, including jazz, rock, hip hop, rap, etc. It's really, really great. And his performance was stunning.
