Dig those crazy boxes!

Post by HeeBGB »

So I was going through my tubes stash tonight and came across something I don't remember getting. Check this out. Real pretty. Gotta love those shiny box plates. I have no idea what it sounds like!

French military aren't they? Some of the best 6V6s I ever heard were Mazda.

Used a few in preamps, they sound very nice!
As noted, the 6V6's are great also, as are the Visseaux 6V6's, also of French manufacture I believe. They had time to concentrate on making good tubes, wine and food while we were defending them. Sorry, couldn't resist.

Mazda & Visseaux I've run across were made early 50's. They don't take well to high voltages, but very happy with say 350V max. One customer has a pair of Mazda shoulder shape 6V6 in his brown Princeton, wonderful tone. I got a stash of Visseaux, rarely run across the right conditions to use them.

I have a tube that looks like that, but the writing is almost entirely worn off. I popped it in an amp once and it seemed to be dead, but I couldn't bring myself to toss it.

Not sure if I have ever seen one of those Mazda types before.

Reminds me of that failed Blackburn double triode that flopped.

I bought one of those NOS several years ago, I found it a little hard but I don`t recall what voltage I had it running. I think it was one of my Dumble builds and I do prefer Heerlen Amperex in those.

But OTOH in the right circuit I`m sure it would be great. Being intended for the French military they would be top quality manufacture.
