My latest build

Re: My latest build
My dad had over 70 weapons on our farm including a cannon when I grew up. We shot up cans and bottles all the time and hunted.
Was fun trying out a different weapon but I usually had my favorites.

Mark, you can't drop a story like that and not tell us how they blew it up?!? Growing up, we had a lot of fireworks and on rare occasion, smokeless powder, but no dy-nee-mite (to quote Yosemite Sam).M Fowler wrote:My older brothers talk about the dynamite they took from the miners shack up the road from our place near Potlash, Idaho. Then all the kids were playing Sheriff and Outlaws. The Outlaws were hiding in the barn and Sheriff Ricky decided to smoke them out. That barn was history after the big fire

Those .270's are a flat shooting round.
I hit a deer at over 300 yds with a .270, in the head.

Re: My latest build
Yes the 270 is a great hunting rifle ammo and I've used a few. A 264 mag was great for tossing long range rounds down field.
For my kids I had 22-250 and 243 Savage rifles.
My wife used a nice Stevens bolt action 30-30.

I have right about 600 in it including the reddot and 40 rounder. I think think the parts are pretty good. It has the m16 boltcarrier the barrel is made by FN. The trigger feels OK it's crisp but alittle heavy . I really just wanted something that was light and durable and accurate to over 200 yards .
I'm looking for a rear flip up sight but they get pricey fast and I don't know what's good .
I've got a stripped lower I'm thinking about a pistol build in 7.62x39
Forgot to mention this earlier; but if you are still planning to do a pistol build I would use the M16 bolt carrier group( carrier, carrier key, cam pin, firing pin, firing pin retainer, assembled bolt) in the pistol build and install an AR BCG in your current carbine build. The heavier M16 carrier along with a 5.1 or 5.5 oz buffer will help prevent possible short stroking in a pistol build and slow down the carrier speed so that it won't beat up the buffer and spring so bad.
If you are going piece meal the bolt carrier group parts; you could just purchase the M16 carrier only, but make sure you get the M16 firing pin, all other parts in the BCG are interchangeable across both the AR and M16 platforms.

Re: My latest build
Thanks again I'm having second thoughts about the pistol build . I just don't think I'd have an actual use for it other than blasting cans. I'll just have to see how I like this gun .a rifle build might be cool.
I'm still aways from knowing enough to piece together individual parts I've just been looking at kits thanks for the info. I'll try to digest all that.

ToneMerc l, what are the differences in firing pins for 16 vs 15 ? Mass? Thanx,.

Re: My latest build
In a pure technical sense, yes because the M16 pin has a larger retaining collar and thus is heavier. The change was part maybe a dozen changes to satisfy the ATF's requirement that guns could not be easily converted to FA. There are generally 3 styles of carriers and to avoid issues with collar flange mismatch I was trying to apply the KISS principle. However, like all things there's conditions and caveats, but it's just easier to remember to use an M16 pin in an M16 carrier, but push comes to shove you could use an AR pin in an M16.TUBEDUDE wrote:ToneMerc l, what are the differences in firing pins for 16 vs 15 ? Re: My latest build
Since the platform is modular there's lot of options. Here's an rifle upper with a 24 inch fluted bull barrel and a side charging upper receiver. With the side charging receiver and bolt there's no need to reach behind it the pull the charging handle.cbass wrote:Thanks again I'm having second thoughts about the pistol build . Re: My latest build
That charging handle on the AR and other derivatives always struck me as a weak link.
Seems like it's cast metal and could break rather easily.
Only thing with it on the bolt is you can't use the dust cover.

This is only a conversation that can be had in the USA!
After Obama's statement of needing more background checks I think you guys are all stuffed though, I mean you are all active members on an "attack site forum" and build dangerous high voltage electronic devices that could be mistaken for a bomb by your local school teachers ..
ha ha , just having a laugh... I grew up in South Africa with a family that all owned guns.
