boredom

Post by stretch2011 »

I always stay busy because having nothing to do drives me crazy, I'm not a couche potato.

I'm between builds and pretty well finished with some cabinetry aside for things like corners. Might actually have all the trainwreck type chassis perfected (maybe), So I'm at a standstill and it sucks!

Anyone else hate sitting around?

I hear you.
Certainly wish I had the coin to build at least one amp per week(not for customers) for about two months...just to scratch a few itches I have.
Last child a Junior in college...so maybe next year.
If it don't get hot and glow, I don't want it !

I wish I had the coin to build 1 amp per month for the next 2 years!

I've done pretty good this last year, I've built 2 princetons, 2 5e3's, my bassman inspired 28 special, halfway done with a reverb unit, and need a pt for something I've came up with. Also about 8 portable amps. Along with 10 cabinets and about 100 chassis.

Boredom is an interesting philosophical concept. And please don't take what I am about to say as an insult, but I believe boredom is a character flaw. It seems it is based on how we perceive time and what we do in response. An active mind is important. Just the act of thinking about why you are having the feeling can cure it.

None taken!

The mind is a crazy thing. Although I will have to disagree. I do not think its a character flaw, because it drives us to do things.

Maybe you finally have time to play guitar! I often struggle to find time to play, record, mix, build and gig in a balanced way.

Yep, I've been going crazy lately myself to do something. I have stuff to build an amp and the time to do it, but I mostly feel like picking up a guitar instead. I've spent waaaaay to long building things to play, and not playing them.

I need people to play with. I am at that stage where if they are not a serious player whose played for 5-6 years I don't want to jam.

I'm not saying I'm great, but no one around here has any rhythm, and its hard to solo, or play in general, over a crappy rhythm section.

Hey stretch, would you happen to live in Greater Cinti?
If so, I'll jam with ya. I DO have rhythm.

Finding people to play with is such a bitch. I learned to play listening to early Clapton. So it's all blues to me. For a while, my friends and I had a 24-track studio. We played Cream and Blind Faith, then wrote and recorded our own things. We downsized. The drummer (who could never keep time) became a keyboard player who could only play Beatles and Billy Joel. I realize that Robert Johnson and Skip James could just play by themselves. Not me. I can't sing a lick, so if I don't have a a bass or another guitar player to work off of, I'm screwed. Playing for yourself gets old.

I just cant get in the mood. I'm a tone junkie. Creamy and soulful, and I love some bite, but not too much. The guys around me suck, nothing but distortion, no rhythm, and no timing.

I love playing blues, jazz, classic rock in general. Although the guy who got me building amps is who really opened up my eyes. Before him I never listened to robin ford, roy bucanon( I know that's spelled wrong), Anson and sam, etc.

So since I've played music with him, everyone else is just dull. ( but he has a 40+ years of experience so its hard to find someone like that). Only problem is he is in Dayton!

He also introduced me to the tweeds, brownface vibroverb, the fender twin reverb, and dun dun dun the ODS.

Although I do sing, I know the feeling of needing a rhythm section for my guitar playing. Then I got inspired by Tommy Emmanuel to start working on my thumbpicking style. That led to Travis, Atkins, Watson, Smith, and a host of others. I applied the thumb technique to most of my music and now I don't want the rhythm section. It was well worth the effort and I highly recommend it.
