Quickie head cabinet alternative

Post by xtian »

I wanted a quick way to house this Tiny Terror experiment. I just cut two planks of cabinet grade birch, and four lengths of 3/8" aluminum rod. I tapped each end of the rods for #10-32 screws. Feels pretty sturdy, and looks attractive, after a couple coats of gun oil.

Wrap it in grill clothe and it will look like a hut!

Good idea! I'm half tempted to bend some (I believe the term is corrugated sheet metal with all the little holes? ) into a box for a cabinet.

I know what expanded metal is. I need perforated. Ah that's the word perforated!

Clever!
Maybe...just maybe...if you cut a groove around each board near the edge, you might be able to take a single piece of perforated metal and clamp it in place. Once in place, "paint" the seam with something to make a faux weld so it will retain it's shape if you have to take it apart.

Idea built on Phil_S's idea

Bend the perforated metal around the rods, between the wood. Wrap it around the front and back rods and bolt it to itself on each back rod. Leaving the back open. Think of it like the plastic power cord holder you screw into the cabinet to keep it off the tubes. The back rods would be the cords and the metal would be The holder.
