Re: Here's a new avatar for Reeltarded
I prefer to avoid rubbing my nose in my own pile off steaming acquisition mistakes. Mostly I bought the wrong stuff, either at the wrong time or for the wrong price. The bright side, is I have managed to sell the majority of it for at least break even prices. So, while I didn't strike gold, I didn't strike out either. I like the feeling of having it gone. It's a weight off my shoulders.

Firestorm, I can't tell you how to feel about your particular GAS. However, I will say that time, money, youthful indiscretion, and wisdom acquired with age all seem to be mutually exclusive commodities. I went to college (early '70's) down the block from Sam Ash in Hempstead (Hofstra) and can't tell you how many times I wondered in there (a bit of a walk, so what) to look at the gear I couldn't afford. I seemed only to have time and youthful indiscretion in my pocket at the point in my life. I will say, however, that I had a very excellent Gibson J50 on semi-permanent loan from my sister, so at least I was playing a really decent guitar, even if not electric. Life wasn't all bad. I finally had to give up that J50 to my nephew when she recalled it some 15 years later. She paid for that guitar. I had to go along.

I remember seeing 4 or 5 Plymouth Superbirds/ Datona Chargers on the local dealer's lot for about six months back in the early seventies. They probably were glad to get rid of them after that much time.

Similar here but what gets me is the second guessers and late dealers who razz me about practically everything I do sell. "Why dincha call ME! I woulda gave you $50 more than HE did... " Which is why I posted what I did a couple posts back. Only one generic Kleenex per whinger, that's all ya get.Structo wrote:I hate getting rid of anything.
Things were tight and I let a few treasures go.
Trouble is I regret selling things I had for years, even if I don't use them!

What was really weird is when we were really hurting and I tried to sell a couple custom telecasters I made.
I had them on consignment at a local guitar store.
The owner is well known for selling fine vintage guitars.
He played them and said no problem for $600.
No takers.
Finally I told him to sell them for $450. No takers.
So I decided to keep them because I'm not going to sell for less than the parts cost.
I would have really regretted selling them below cost.

The trick is to buy everything 2-3 decades ago and not want to buy anything now.
Seriously. That works. Do that.

I used to go into Giuliano's in White Plains when they had a wall 50 feet long with two rows of 50s and 60s strats. But they wanted almost a thousand dollars for some of those. No way! Idiot again.
You know, I buy some stuff stuff to sell and then I do a setup and then I get caught playing it.. and then I pile it over there <--- and wonder what I can sell.
Ohio must have had an ocean in the 60's. I found most colored instruments near the coasts.. and then I got to Ohio. I guess it was the car thing and the dance halls. So thick with 'em and cheap because of it.
Let's go back and do it again. Meet you there.

Does anybody have a DeLoreon that will actually do 88 mph and a spare flux capacitor? I plan to go back to 1959 with several thousand to scoop up some sunbursts.

I can pitch the question to Ace, he might still have his DL. Hope you like red, he had it painted to hide all the bondo.LeeMo wrote:Does anybody have a DeLoreon that will actually do 88 mph and a spare flux capacitor? I plan to go back to 1959 with several thousand to scoop up some sunbursts.
Flux capacitor? Check with ApexJr, I think he has a barrel full. Cheap.
Suggestion on the several thousand: bring old money. A pocket full of Federal Reserve banknotes especially the new ones with all their so called anti counterfeiting measures will get you the wrong kind of attention in 1959. Try explaining that to FBI and not so Secret Circus.

It would take you 38 seconds to get to 88.. and you'd be stuck in 1959..

1959 was the best year, but not until much later... by 1975 for sure.
