Another Piece of Useful Tube Software Bites the Dust
Since I got a new CPU and upgraded to Windows 10 64 bit, I went looking to download Glassware's Tube CAD software, a very useful and cheap but now elderly software.
Horrors! It doesn't run on any 64 bit OS. Now I'll have to plug in my old CPU, runs XP, and dig up the old 17" monitor I had before I got the spiffy new 27" one I use now.
Anyone know of anything similar available that will run on 64 bit? Not SPICE, too expensive and too much of a learning curve.

Maybe you could run it in a virtual machine on your new computer.

+1 virtual OS. That's how I run all my Windows software!

Another mystery. What is virtual OS?

Download a program called VirtualBox. It's free. It will allow you to create a virtual computer within your computer simulated in software. That virtual computer can run any operating system you want, like CP 32 bit. Then in that virtual XP system, you can install your program.

Thank you, that's great! I'll try it.
Sorry I have to be spoonfed all this stuff, I didn't grow up with it and I don't have an intrinsic interest in it. But sometimes I gots to know!

If you search out the actual program file, mark it and right click, then in 'properties'. the 'compatibility' tab enables you to run the pgm in emulation modes of earlier and lower Windows versions...

Yes, absolutely the last one!
No need for virtual machines, windows does it already!

absolutely, windows backwards compatibility is very good. You should have no problem running it this way. you can still run DOS on windows 10.

Re: Another Piece of Useful Tube Software Bites the Dust
Thank you gents, that is good to know. Now all I have to do is download another copy of TubeCAD....
But wait!! The Glassware website says (in 28 pt font no less) that TubeCAD will NOT run on ANY 64 bit OS, which Win 10 is.
Maybe they have not tried it on Win 10??

give it a try, normally non 64 bit programs get installed in the x86 program files folder. However if this is some executable java type thing it doesn't actually install as a program.
try the right click, run in XP compatibility mode.

Windows 10 is available in 32 bit and 64 bit versions. I downloaded both.

Re: Another Piece of Useful Tube Software Bites the Dust
I don't remember if that was ever specified when I did the download, but I would imagine I would have gone for 64 cbit if there was a choice.
Is there a way I can find out which one I have?
UPDATE: I found it--I have 64 bit.

Re: Another Piece of Useful Tube Software Bites the Dust
You have that choice when you do a manual download. There are three files, one for 32 bit, one for 64 bit, and another much larger file for 32/64 bit. I chose the 32/64bit file because I have different computers to upgrade.I don't remember if that was ever specified when I did the download
