rp, yes it is some nice wood. If I had a nickle for every musician who's played it and offered to buy it, I'd have a nice nest egg.
Sluckey, you are my twin brother's kindred spirit. I used to think I had GAS, but I'm a piker compared to him. I walked into his music room, and counted 18 guitars hanging on the wall on surplus music store hardware, and that doesn't count the 5 more I know are in cases in the closet. Around the room are at least 6 high end amps. That's one reason I started building my own amps. I've benefited from your knowledge and advice. Thanks!
While PRSs aren't my thing, I heartily endorse the OP purchasing and appreciating as many guitars and amps as he can comfortably afford. Support your local builders. And those in other states.

Re: HOW MUCH DO I NEED?!?!?!?!?!
Seriously, ignore the gear quantities for now and concentrate on finding the shear joy in making music. Your predicament is making me sad. I hope you can find a place where it is FUN. Making music is my main method to escape the BS of life and find pure enjoyment. I hope you can find that. If I didn't have that, I would sell all my shit.
Electronic equipment is designed using facts and mathematics, not opinion and dogma.
Re: HOW MUCH DO I NEED?!?!?!?!?!
Seriously, what VibratoKing said. Music is about the joy in doing it. I know you're challenge with not being able to play what you used to first hand, but just playing with friends is still my definition of fun.
Re: HOW MUCH DO I NEED?!?!?!?!?!
DOH!
Didn't mean this to be a downer!!!
I've been playing a little while now, just 27 years or so... still pretty young, just turned 40! Just in a rut is what I'm thinking... I was in a metal band a few years ago, where i met my drummer buddy, and it was fun, but I got tired of the heavy metal type stuff, and we were DREADFULLY bad... I knew we would never leave the basement, just getting together and having fun. After the band fell apart, I just didn't have the drive left to organize. My Drummer buddy does a little gigging now and then, and keeps pushing me to come out and play, but I don't really have any desire to do so. The few times i've played out in my life were never what i was looking for. I like to play and write music with friends, but I am an introvert, and don't want to be the center of attention in any way.
I gotta find some new stuff to play!

Re: HOW MUCH DO I NEED?!?!?!?!?!
Hi,
Hope you find a way to get back in the "Zone"
A good teacher can change the way you think, if you can find the right person. A PRS could buy quite a few lessons.
I try to keep things to the minimum....
A strat, a tele, a LP and a jazzbox are just basic test equipment if you build or fix amps.
A dreadnought acoustic is obviously essential. A twelve string is good for those times you're bored or feel like extra jangle.
A decent bass or two around the house for recording is another thing you wouldn't want to be without.
There is no such thing as too many amps.
take care and try lessons...........
John

guittech:
find one thing that gives you a little jolt/spark, could be anything the color of a guitar, learn a wierd song....anything.
I have a similiar problem, getting old...lol
I have played Hockey for almost 40 years, an almost made it story, languishing in the minors, wrecked my body (knees ) took a few years off to recover and feel sorry for myself.
Coached my kids, and now I play in a beer league, but came to the conclusion that I Hate hockey, its like a job...the thrill is gone....but my one jolt/spark is skating down the ice and hearing my 24 year old son who plays on my team yell "Dad, puck!" (which means hey old man, pass the puck)
I advised my son, ok I will give it one more year, but its still like a job.
Like you I'm an introvert, and I dont play my geetar for anyone but me, and that makes all the difference, make yourself happy...
ok i'm done ranting and feel good......peace, brothers

Re: HOW MUCH DO I NEED?!?!?!?!?!
When all the people around me were buying drugs and getting tattoos I was buying amps and bikes. So at least the stuff you spent money on has some value still.
You only need one guitar and one amp, but they need to be the right ones. I sometimes think the guys with tons of gear either don't know what they want, or haven't found it (or built it) yet.
Spend some time wood-shedding and figure out what you really want or need.
Chesire cat sez “Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?"
"That depends a good deal on where you want to get to."
"I don't much care where –"
"Then it doesn't matter which way you go.”

Re: HOW MUCH DO I NEED?!?!?!?!?!
Alas, it varies depending on the band. If I was ONLY playing in my AC/DC tribute, I'd need just the one amp ('83 JCM 800 2203), one guitar and one cable.
OTOH, in my covers band, I need to sound like a couple dozen different guitarists.

Too much is never enough.
Re: HOW MUCH DO I NEED?!?!?!?!?!
The trick is knowing the difference between want and need.
What I don't know is the difference between a tribute band and a cover band.
(sorry xtian couldn't resist!)
I get a scary close malcolm tone with my '59 Danelectro into a model of a jtm45. Modeling amps are great for covering various artists and eras.
I have 8 guitars (including 2 lap steels and a bass, so really only 5) and 3 amps, but seriously once I build 1 more amp and find the right Tele I'm done! All kidding aside most of them I keep around for sentimental reasons, playing wise I could be pretty happy with just my Les Paul and the amp I built for myself or even my cheap modeling amp. it's more important to get happy with your playing and your situation.

Re: HOW MUCH DO I NEED?!?!?!?!?!
Because I can't resist, I'll define a tribute band as devoted to one artist, and a cover band plays many artists music.

Re: HOW MUCH DO I NEED?!?!?!?!?!
It's been almost 40 years since I had 8 guitars and almost 20 since I had 130 guitars.
Yes. You are crazy. You need way more guitars. You should buy some of mine so I can buy more.

Re: HOW MUCH DO I NEED?!?!?!?!?!
Wait, did Reel just call me crazy?
That's gotta be really bad right?
I don't think I have the skills to play in a cover band, everything I play comes out sounding the same. Though I could play in a ZZ Top, or Montrose tribute band, might even be able to pull off a young Alex Lifeson. Or T-rex.
My uncle played in a cover band based out of Chico for 40 years called Cottonwood, they played everything from Michael Jackson to Beachboys to Merle Haggard and everything in between, roadied for them a couple summers when I was a kid. A trio with a tele and a Twin, a jazz bass with with an acoustic 360, and a vintage ludwig club set, covered a lot of ground literally and figuratively.

Re: HOW MUCH DO I NEED?!?!?!?!?!
Playing is great when you feel like it. I used to feel like it 24/7 for umm.. 25 years.. maybe 30.
I miss the volume and certain venues. The right moment is more exciting than a rocket launch and you are the rocket.
