Corking bottom plate

Post by gahult »

I was going to go and find a store for adhesive backed cork. But, I found my roll of cork I purchased for previous builds. Inside of the roll I found a roll of "Heat-n-bond" iron on fabric adhesive I "removed" from the wife's sewing possibles and hide in the roll of cork.

Figured I might as well try it instead of the messy contact glue I used before.
Here is what I did.

1 I cut the cork using the bottom plate as a template and a piece of "Heatnbond" bigger than the cork.

2. Decided to trim it a little closer to the size of the cork as it may be easier to work with.

3. I ironed it to the cork, paper side up.

4. I trimmed it to the size of the cork.

5. Show the bottom plate on top of the cork...the paper will be removed from the adhesive and a hot iron is used on top of the bottom plate to adhere the cork. Then I just use the rolling cutter to trim it to the same size as the bottom plate.

Good to go, no mess.

The stuff I use is adhesive backed already, really easy to use. Got it at Michael's or Hobby Lobby, don't remember which.

Nice job Gary.

Like Ron I got the adhesive back cork from Lowe's cabinet section used to line kitchen drawers. :)

I didn't think to look at Lowes.

The Hobby Lobby and Micheal's are about half an hour away.

Just tried what I had on hand from years ago. :)

When I run out I will certainly try the adhesive backed cork as it would seam to be a better way to go.
