Joe Bonamassa uses tweed amps on Red Rocks DVD

Post by Ken Moon »

I just pre-ordered Joe's Red Rocks DVD, and it looks like his amp lineup is 2 tweed Twins and two tweed Bassmans (all combos), with just a single green Way Huge overdrive pedal and a wah.

It sounds a bit brighter to my ears compared to his Marshall/Dumble setup with 4 heads, but still very nice as far as I can tell from the youtube videos.

I can't wait to get the BluRay disc to get a better listen.

I think this concert was on public television
a few weeks ago. A tribute to blues legends Walker and Waters maybe?
If this is the same show, there was another guitarist and a 3 horn section with a piano player that looked to be in his 80's. It was a good show.
Actually liked it better than the Royal Albert Hall
JB sounds good, like to see him live sometime.

Yeah a late 50's burst and a couple of cranked tweeds is a good combination...

Yes, this is the one from Red Rocks last year. Shown on PBS during the recent pledge drive. They save a lot of the good shit for the pledge drives. It is a tribute to Muddy Waters and Howlin Wolf.

Lol, the old guy is Reece Wynans from SRV and Double Trouble fame.

The drummer is Anton Fig from Letterman.

Second guitarist is Kirk Fletcher. You'd never know it from this vid, but Kirk is a monster. Highly recommend searching him out.

Joe's tone is very good, but his technique is so accurate that almost anything sounds good. Yes, and some 50s Les Pauls don't hurt although he does play a 335 and a Strat. Maybe a Tele as well.

Joe was the "child prodigy" many years ago, 11 years old they dressed him up in SRV costume & made the rounds of all the clubs, many times over. Nice to see he's back and getting lots of public acceptance = selling concert tickets.

In the photo I think that's Joe's tech Mike Hickey with a goldie in hand. Mike has a couple of his own CD's out, some outrageous playing on those: 'Goldtop' and 'Goatreign', probably more by now. He's also toured playing with Venom. No mere knuckle-draggin' roadie, he really knows his stuff. Joe's lucky to have Mike handling his guitars & amps.
down technical blind alleys . . .
