Cranked liverpool

Post by Andyjoe »

I am just wondering what a cranked pool sounds like? Is it simular to a higher gain vox, 18 or 36 watt marshall? Just trying to get a idea because I am on the fence between a liverpool whitch if I dont like I will change to a dc 30, or a JCM 800. How does the gain stack up against the JCM?

Thanks
Andy

It has the express preamp, so has reasonable gain. Not JCM800 gain... And, it is fully capable of driving the EL84s hard, so plenty of power tube crunch. And, with it's NFB and presence, it has tight bass. Very solid at classic and hard-rock. Plenty of gain for great sustain and controllable feedback.

FYI, in mine, I ended up with 7nf coupling cap after the 2nd stage and 68k to ground after it. Excellent, ballsy playing with the bridge pick up. If you prefer neck pick up playing, you may want to reduce the cap size a little bit. 2nf is bright and chimey but still good low end with a neck pick up. Too thin for bridge pick up at 2nf.

Thanks Paul one more question. As I understand the amp is suposed to react with your guitar volume. If you set it up for good gain and you turn down the guitar volume what kind of clean do you get?

Again Thanks

Liverpool cleans are full of chime and sparkle. All by just rolling back the volume.

Also, there is enough gain on tap to go into metal mode pretty easily. There is no attenuation between stages except for the tonestack, so it can hang with a lot of amps considered to be "high gain."
Eardrums!!! We don't need no stinkin' eardrums!
