Distilled Dumble

I know that someone has probably done a thread on this subject, but I was wondering if anyone has tried doing a distilled Dumble. After owning a Fuchs Ods, I came to a few conclusions. For me, the three mini-toggles
are something I dont need. I always used the bright switch(this can be wired to the volume control), but never the deep or Jazz/Rock switch.
Also I would prefer the amp the be "single channel, non switching", as that would be better for my tastes. The rest...as is...I think probably 50 watts.

Nothing hard about that but I haven't seen one on the forum. Kind of like an OD Small Special- add a tube and the level control.

That sounds like the original Brown Note D'Lite.

The D'Lite 22/33 had foot-switchable OD and PAB. I think our friend here wants to ditch all that clap-trap.

That sounds like the original Brown Note D'Lite.

Yep, the original Brownnote 22 D'lite, no relays, no footswitch. You could put the bright on the volume pot and hard wire the PAB and OD on or off.

I've got two, one I built 7 years ago, another one I'll finish one of these days. Kits, from Brown Note.

If built with deluxe size transformers, 22 watts with 6V6. Mine have bigger transformers, 44 watts with 6L6, less with 6V6, but sounds good either way.

If you like Dumble tone then clone a ODS one to start with.

When I built mine I got the CE chassis so it was drilled for the switches.
About the only one I mess with is the bright switch there.

I have the Mid boost, OD and PAB on the amp pedal.
So I can stomp the OD plus PAB with one foot.
Or Mid boost plus OD.

I feel that the Dumbleator is required with these amps.
Or at least it helps the overall tone.

You can squeeze one inside the amp but things get cramped fast.
That way you can put the D'lator output pot on the front panel for your master volume.

If I wanted a pedal friendly clean amp, I would have to go with a black face Fender amp, like the Pro or other 50-100w Fender amp.

Not to say I don't have a pedal board in front of my amp....

I have redundant switches on the back panel for OD and FET and tonestack bypass on/off 100kl mid-control pots in case of a failure (it's all on footstwitch relays as well: FET, Cleanstack megaboost, OD, HRM megaboost).

I think what the original poster is looking for is hard wired bright on, no deep, and hard wired rock position with no switches and permanently cascaded OD on.

I like the flexibility of the original, but can see the appeal of a simpler layout where the amp spends 98% of it's time set.

Why not? Just run the .047 V1b cap into the OD entrance trimmer. If you tend to leave the level pot the same, that could be a trimmer too. Eliminating some shielded runs might make the amp brighter than the stock version so consider scaling back the bright caps -- or just order some different sizes for mixing and matching.

Me, I'd still like a bright-off option for those ear-bleed Teles. Put it on a push/pull pot if space is a consideration. sh

I never play with the OD off, so I did the same thing. Mine's an HRM with OD always on. Eliminated the clean tone stack and put the HRM controls on the front. No deep, mid or PAB, no relays, and (obviously), no clean master, so it simplifies the layout a bit. It's become my favorite amp!
