Hi all,
Just curious if anyone knows what type of fabric Adam Grimm @ satellite amplifiers uses for his heads and cabs.
I love the variety of colors he uses. And I can't seem to find that variety in tolex alone.
I'm working on building my first head and cabinet. I bought this sweet mustard yellow leatherette from the local fabric store here. But its not strong at all, it scratches easy and doesn't match up as nice when you glue seams together.
Any recommendations? Types of fabrics / distributors?
Thanks.

Kayline in Trenton, NJ manufactures a large percentage of the tolex used on commercial amps. They have an incredible number of colors and textures, and can make just about anything you can think of on a custom basis.
The only problem is you have to buy a whole roll (50 yds long x 54 in wide) - but sometimes they'll sell half a roll, and they often have some interesting bargain bin tolex in partial rolls.
It takes some big rollers to handle full rolls of tolex, and shipping tolex is expensive (unless you live in Philly/South Jersey and can pick it up with your own truck).

Sort of a tangent but there's a boutique amp co using this stuff I believe. I've seen the place mats made of it, looks tough to work with but maybe the mats are plastic coated. Nice vintage/modern look to these fabrics.

Adam is a super cool guy, shoot him an email. He may even sell you some. He is not always in his shop so give him a couple days to reply. I have one of his heads and cab in my shop. Vinyl is a bit thin but looks great.pleasantbullet wrote:Hi all,

Morgan amps discontinued this stuff awhile back because of availability issues. I have a couple heads with this stuff and it's pretty sweet.rp wrote:chilewich = http://www.xits-sound.com/
