Re: Jailhouse 30
Agreed, that thread turned political way too fast!
Keep the pictures and observations coming. Do you have an amp such as the Rocket to compare it to?
It would be interesting to know the differences between them. I played my Rocket with my Les Paul and it is a great amp. I can't see the Jailhouse 30 topping it.
Build on!

i like the name jailhouse 30. especially since the record player is currently spinning some jimmie rodgers.
i built this amp about a year ago. i had a chassis that had the z-rec circuit in it but when i finished my proper rocket i gutted this one and built up the SW30. so yeah this is obviously tube rec'd. prefer the higher B+ option. it is a nice amp, and it sounds pretty good. however, i like the rocket better for overdrive tones and the 5b6 for cleans.
also, a lot of people talking about it seeming to want to go into feedback while playing clean. my doesn't do that, but it does feedback effortlessly when the gain is up.
i didn't have a 3Meg pot at the time so i used a 1Meg pot with a 1Meg series resistor coming off each leg of the pot. i usually keep the bass pot at 3oclock, so if i did anythign to change it i would change those series resistors to 500k and 1.5Meg.
and it has the PPIMV. but i'm telling you this amp doesn't need it. even at full tilt 10/10 volume its not too loud. if you were in an aparement maybe it would be useful but in my house i have no problems having it the volume at 5/10 without anyone other occupants complaining ha.

Yeah Jailhouse is right, because if things get any hotter in that other thread, somebody is going to catch a case!
I have never been a real big fan of EL84's for OD, so this seemed like a nice off the beaten path project.

Try bypassing the parallel resistor and cap between the bass and volume controls. Really opens up the amp and makes it a whole new animal.

Great to see that coming together... I'll see if the waters stay peaceful and maybe join in the fun a bit later.

R.J. if you can try out the amp, then do that it you can't then. Build one up and see what you think. I've built a stack of amps on my bench (with no chassis) to get a feel of what the amp was about and if I'd like to build one.
It is a Ken Fischer amp and it is recorded here that Ken didn't mind someone building for personal use.
