Re: Express rebuild
Add a 820R - 1k whatever value you have sitting around 1/2w to 1w is fine on pin 2 of V1 then connect the white wire from the volume pot wiper to this 820R resistor.
Add a ceramic .002 cap parallel to that .002 OD cap (3rd from the left on tone board). I usually follow Richie's advice and just use a single .003 here.
May need to fiddle around with NFB circuit after that or not.
Do some tube rolling to fine good tone.
This thread is about a Liverpool but applies to the Express as well, gets good around page 3,4,5 https://tubeamparchive.com/viewtopic.php?t=26313

Re: Express rebuild
From the pics I don't see a feedback loop wire. If that is the case IF you have too much gain you really should try hooking up the feedback loop. It reduces gain and will help the headroom. We just went through this with another builder here, don't remove the loop just thinking you don't want the presence control. These amps are wild enough already with the loop, and taking it out is asking for even more!
Re: Express rebuild
Hi Geetarpicker,
where in the circuit does that go? I cant recall that,
Peter

Re: Express rebuild
It's the red wire from the impedance selector to the presence pot with a 100k in-line. Looks like your NFB loop is connected to me.
Re: Express rebuild
It is that red wire from presence pot to impedance selector.
Re: Express rebuild
Ok , I know what we are talking about now, I did not know that NFB and Presence was the same thing.............sorry guys my Bad

this is the schematic I used for my build

Re: Express rebuild
Glen is right, as I'm the other builder (Liverpool) and it worked great. If the 100K is not giving you enuff NF try a 68K or 56K to give more feedback and tame the gain.

In theory, theory is the same as practice. In practice it's different.

Re: TWE Clone, Gain issues
Hi Peter, I went through this myself with a variant of an LP build. It was a bit of a non standard Wreck in that I was using a pair of small EL95 output tubes. They were just getting blasted by all the signal coming in to them, but that's not all that I addressed in taming it. It is now one of my personal favorite amps. I did utilize some of the tips you've already heard about and a few other options as well.loupy31 wrote:... Is there a site where all TWE mods are gathered, or any advice others might have... Regards Peter
On page 3 of this thread you'll find an extensive list of Wreck taming tweaks https://tubeamparchive.com/viewtopic.php?t=11528.
These were in part taken from a couple other TAG threads

As I mentioned in the final mutterings of my post on taming the LP, it's possible I actually took it a little too far and lost some of the rawness of the beastly nature of this amp. However, as I mentioned it is a wonderful amp to play through.
