The phone company sanctioned me!

Post by Phil_S »

I won't mention which wireless carrier, but it is the big one. I've got a Samsung s4 that was suffering from constant reboots and screen freezes after receiving the NG6 update. I'm afraid I screwed up. There was a long thread on the phone company forum site discussing how the phone company was not acknowledging the problem. There was lots of misinformation being given along with some good information about how to address the problem. Proper diagnosis, IMO, required rooting the phone so I could actually mount an unsanctioned fix to prevent the crashes and monitor the problem. I was foolish and posted a report of my actions and results. Apparently, discussion of rooting or hacking a phone is not permitted on the official site. Opps. The mod rejected my post and then locked the thread. I received two notifications. One said my post was rejected. The other said the thread was locked and all mention of unsanctioned stuff was being removed. Oh my.

My only regret is that I may have been the one who triggered the locking of the thread. I sure hope they don't come after me as they have my phone number as part of my forum registration. I believe I may have violated the terms of service.

And all this because they broke the phones of a significant number of customers, couldn't tell them was was wrong, and wouldn't acknowledge there was a problem.

Is this what corporate America has come to? It is shameful.

GM tried to do the same thing for 10 years and it bit them in the butt.

Coke & Pepsi spent bazillions just recently trying to prevent Beserkley city voters not to add a measly penny per ounce tax to their heavily sugar injected sodas. And it's not even real sugar, it's high fructose corn syrup. I never thought I'd support anything Berkeley CA ever voted for but that one I do.

Those of you old enough may recall the Pinto gas tank mess in which Ford knew about the design flaw but decided it was cheaper to pay the relatives of charcoaled crash victims than to fix their screwup.

Capitalism, yes. Unprincipled and what's worse unregulated greed, no.

PS If you want real Coke like it was before high fructose corn syrup, buy Mexican made Coke. It uses real cane sugar, they are smart enough to notice that the cheap substitute doesn't taste the same. Our Costco in Tucson carried it when we lived there.

Soda bottled in Jamaica is really good too and I do like the Mexican soda as well.

US coke also has maple syrup as a flavor.

They commonly send out kill pokes to old phones when the new models come out to promote sales.

This particular poke, if really on purpose, has made a lot of customers really angry. You should see the venomous comments, but you can't because they locked the thread and then deleted it. I wouldn't call that a poke. It makes me think: 1) Not another Samsung, and 2) maybe I'll try the low priced carrier when my contract is finished.Probably not, though. I'm told by a nephew who's been with every major carrier that they are all bad and it is a question of which one is the least bad on the day you need to renew your phone.

Pass the maple syrup. It will make this all a bit sweeter.

I'm waiting to see how the new Oneplus phone is.
