Rocket Clips

Post by Richie »

My good friend made some clips tonight of a Rocket Amp I finished.
He did the recording, and playing. Turned out pretty well. I think one of the mics had a vibration on the louder bassy parts,or could have been the drum snare. Guitars were Tele, An EJ strat, and his Gibson Les Paul. The video shows the pic of the head on a marshall 2x12. I just put the pics on there, and added the audio files.

The amp was played through his older vox 4x12 cab, with 25 watt greenbacks. I don't know what all he used to record with, mics etc.

Anyway, here they are.

The 2 audio files I took from my zoom, I had to break them down to fit on here.. these were with the LP. I found one more small part I got off the zoom. It ran the whole time so it had tuning and everything with no edits. So I was just going through it and finding parts that might be good for a clip. So now, 2 + 1 more.. This was the strat.I'll also add a pic of the cab. I took a screen capture of it. It has his marshall head still sitting on the cab. The Rocket was down in the control room, and cab was upstairs.

Thanks :) these clips are mostly the hotter ones. The volume was about 3/4 full. or where things started happening. You set the treble and bass and cut for what guitar you have. Tele/Strat to LP similar to what you would do on an older marshall.

This amp does have a great clean and chime too. I'll have to see if I can get something that shows that too. But this was just the amp. It also is an amp that loves pedals. And we never even got to that point..:)

I'll echo those comments it is a very nice sounding amp.

As far as my Rocket's clean tones goes I find humbuckers to be too hot for the Rocket, I'm using vintage humbuckers (7.6K to 8K) and I hear the first stage distorting. It's not over the top distortion, but a growl when hitting chords with bass notes. When I turn the guitar down and the amp up the clean sound is much better.

Mark, yeah, you have to pick lighter on the attack. i'll try to get some cleaner things on here. This amp has a nice clean too.

I was surprised how good the Hotcake sounded through the Rocket with my Strat. It provided a nice blend of shimmering clean and good distorted tones.

FANTASTIC!

First one I have heard that sounded like the thing that it is.. barely more reserved. Slightly. But wow!

EDIT: Mic needs a -10db pad. It's clipping the input of the mic amp. Single coils really show it in the hump.

Tip: When recording digital audio make peaks no higher than -14 to record it and leave a couple db on the table when you bounce it. That left side splat is the signal hitting a brickwall limit WAY WAY WAY too hard.

Way

And still the amp sounds fantastic.

One of those things done in a rush, and then find out after the fact..lol But yes I agree, there was something a bit too hot. Plus one guitar to the next, never set any levels different. Most of the clips were of the amp about 3/4 up on the volume.

Plus any of the clips from the zoom, I took those and cut the clips up.
I'll be the first to tell ya, I don't have a clue what i'm doing when it comes to the recording part.

But I just wanted to get something of the clips. I may just try some clean stuff here and see how that goes. Something to improve on. But I do agree the basic sound of the amp is pretty good.
Thanks for your input on the clips. :)

Completely disagree with that. Nowhere near basically good. Your amp KILLS it! It's crazy good!

The only thing a top boost has over that is nothing to speak of.

Frittering hiss while they idle and woofy splat when you demand twice the mains power as the thing has capacity for!! Nothing to speak of!!
