Sad news.
I believe his illness, and the fact he needed funds for treatment, was a moving force behind the Cream reunion shows--Eric giving back to the two guys who made him a god.
The original version of White Room on Wheels of Fire is one of all-time great rock performances, by the whole group.

I heard this on the radio this morning.

Great rock voice and bass.
Seemed like he used a fretless bass on the Cream reunion stuff.

Loved the early stuff as well as other projects he was involved with.

Apparently, the cream reunion was an effort to raise money for treatment for liver disease.

71 doesn't seem very old if you are in your later mid years.

RIP my friend.
Tom

That sucks...part of my musical DNA is gone.

I didn't know till just now. He looked pretty healthy at the reunion concert. He was multi talented alright, but never seemed to gain the full fruits of his abilities.

Awwww...crap! One of the best singing bassists, rock or otherwise, of all time IMHO.

RIP Jack. We will miss you sir!

BTW: There is a pretty cool documentary on Ginger Baker called "Beware of Mr. Baker" that is worthy of seeing for any Cream fan.

Sadly,

RIP Jack Bruce.

On a lighter note, I was thinking of others who passed because of liver issues......and I think; Jim Capaldi, Rory Gallagher, and Jack Bruce have just formed a new band!

ROCK ON!

Walter Trout very nearly became another casualty of liver disease, but he got lucky.

RIP Jack. I also really liked his contribution to the BLT albums with Robin Trower.
Don't you boys know any NICE songs?

This is really awful news and makes me feel both sad and old. I saw Cream 11/2/68 Madison Sq Garden. I was 16. They played for a really long time, maybe 4 hours or more. There never was anything like Cream and never will be again. IMHO, Jack was the driving force. He wrote a whole catalog of outstanding songs and sang them really well. They were also one of the very early jam bands and Jack somehow reinvented the role of the bass. I considered him a "musician's musician" in that he really had a flair for what could and would work though it my have been off the beaten path. He will be missed.

I was very saddened by the news of Jack's passing. It's a shame that so many Cream fans abandoned him after the breakup and focused on Clapton. Jack's first 2 solo albums "Songs For a Tailor" and "Harmony Row" contain many gems. "Things We Like" his "jazz" album(Jack plays upright bass on this album)with John McLaughlin is a hoot! RIP Jack...keep singing!
