Derek posted a couple of clips on YouTube playing his Rocket with a Strat & Les Paul, thought I'd throw up a link for those who missed 'em or are interested...

Great player, I especially like the playing in the Rocket-story video, and his funky improv one...
Sounds like he might have some DC @ the input? Vol pots scratching on both guitars.... Just had to fix that on my amp...

Derek Ferwerda & his Rocket
First 25 years of playing, I never got along with EL84's...Now I think, WHAT THE HELL WAS WRONG WITH ME????
Re: Derek Ferwerda & his Rocket
Yep, sounds really good until he touches the volume pot on the guitar.
Simple fix right?

Thanks for the post. Been wanting more from him since I saw that first clip of the Star Spangled Banner.
And Tom, that leakage IS what you want!

Yes Structo, easy fix...ended up being the first stage cathode bypass cap... swapped it out and all is good.

Derek is a great guy and has a lot of interesting Ken Fischer stories... in case you haven't seen it before, take a look at this thread - https://tubeamparchive.com/viewtopic.php?t=6840

Re: Derek Ferwerda & his Rocket
I've watched a few of his clips and I'm happy that my Rocket sounds quite close to his Rocket. I don't think his Rocket sounnds so good with humbuckers and neither does mine.
The DC on the grid is common, I found another tube and in the case of an Amperex tube it just went away.
I find the tubes do make 5% difference (to my ear) to the tone of the amp. It would be hard to make the amp sound bad even with new production tubes.
