New 5e3 Style Build

Post by jeff12 »

Been a while since I posted on TAG. Here is my new 5E3 build.
Ambrosia Maple cabinet, vintage 30 speaker for now, Weber speaker on the way for this build. Carbon comp resistors, cloth wire, Added master on the back
panel. nos tubes. Mojo/Mallory caps. Sounds good so far, want to hear it with Jensen style Weber speaker.

Always good stuff! I hope things are as well for you there as the amp looks. Love it!
Signatures have a 255 character limit that I could abuse, but I am not Cecil B. DeMille.

Nice! Where did you get the cabinet from? Did you make it?

Thanks, just seemed to be a good place for it. I didn't want to add it at all but I had multiple requests for it so.....

The attention to detail is awesome.
Especially the front upper and lower narrow panels being let into the sides.

Imho, the Celestion Blue is Roquefort in a 5E3.

Almost forgot to put the Logo plate on. Now it looks done.

I put a vintage C12Q in it today and it sounds good, I may try an alnico blue I think I have one somewhere. I will experiment until I find the right speaker.

Yes the logo finished it off. Super nice. I love the master back there.

Tony, did you mean that a Blue is requisite for a 5E3? Or are you meaning Roquefort as a colloquial term that means The "Blue" Cheese, i.e. the must-have.

Looks great Jeff, as always!!

Cheese was on my mind because I had just read Sylvia Massy's microphone / cheese comparison.

The suggestion to try the Blue actually goes back to a recommendation from Bruce of Mission Amps on the old Ampage forum.
I recently found a very small tear in my '58 cone, and luckily had a spare Blue knocking around. I like the bite. I just cannot say no to Roquefort.
