Yet another Lend an Ear.....

Post by dogears »

I did this clip this morning. Skyline stack, PAB on, midboost on, HRM, Bluesmaster PI, 6L6 tubes.

SM57 on G1265

Volume was only on 2.

Is this any better than the last one?? I did pull down the mid and bass trimmers a tad. Maybe I need to bump the mids up a touch?

Better tone than the last one? Is a question that can't be answered. The amp/fingers combination you have sounds so good that it's just a question what your "sound" is. I like the 6L6 sounds better than the EL34, I like a little more "character" (read warmth) in the low mids. It comes down to what you like when things sound this good.

Definitely making me lean more towards HRM now. :D
Sounds great, Scott!

How do you position the mike? Is it on or off axis, close/far?

As always the clip sounds great, but doesn't tell the whole story, you gotta hear it in person.

Hey Bob,

Mic was dead on about an inch in from the cone edge. Close miced.

I don't have tonal memory long enough to retain subtlety. Now if you put four clips in the same post and asked which one you like and why I can help.

Otherwise, I liked that one real good.
