Normal Channel Super/Princeton Chassis Done: Thanks!

Post by JoeTele »

Late last year, I posted some preliminary questions about building the normal channel only of a Super Reverb in a Princeton Reverb chassis. I had that idea in my head for years. Thanks to the great information, layouts, etc. I got here, I made it my summer project and it's the blackface sound I've been dreaming about for years. It essentially became a marriage of the preamp circuitry from the normal channel of a Twin Reverb and the power section of a Super Reverb. Because I had one extra hole in the chassis, I added switchable cathode bypass on the input stage (25mfd, no cap, .47mfd) and I can't believe how useful it is. In fact, the .47 cap gives me the "something more" I've always occasionally wanted from a Fender blackface (just a little less brittle and more punch). It's also got bias test points, an easy addition given the unused reverb/vibrato holes on the back. I did have a tech look it over before I powered it up but all he did was shorten the leads on a couple of resistors and reinforced a couple of solder joints. The amp is dead quiet, which I'm happy about as I spent a lot of time on lead dress, transformer orientation, etc.

So, many thanks for all the assistance here, both at at the outset and throughout!

Right on JoeTele. Another TAG success story. Very well done!

Isn't it rewarding to play something that is unique, sounds great and that came from your own head...and hands?

That, for me anyway, is at the core of this wonderful addiction!!

So....whats next on the drawing board?

Rock on,
