Ibanez Standard guitar

Post by M Fowler »

I bought this Ibanez Standard today, not sure of the year but I believe it is 1979 or 1980 due to the pickguard style.

It plays very well so I'm enjoying it.

Excellent score!

I have an old Ibanez arch top (the model that pre-dates the George Benson model). It is every bit as good as the vintage Gibson it was modeled after. Ibanez makes some mighty fine guitars, and has for a long time now!

Congratulations, that's a real beauty. 8)

Nice guitar! I have an Ibanez modeled after an ES-335 and it is a sweet guitar. Sounds and plays great. Don't know how it compares to a real Gibson though.
Don't you boys know any NICE songs?

Serial number search places it at 1977? Pots have 771 on them if that means anything.

I have a 1976 catalog and it is similar to Model # 2351 AV birch top with mahogany body, and the hard laminated maple neck. Antique violin bow finish. Super 70 pickups. But mine could be different, the pickguard is not the same nor the tail piece or bridge.

I only kind of know by the logo that the last possible production is probably late 76 early 77 so that serial is sounding right in that range and that means I haven't forgotten everything by learning other stuff over it except for the most important stuff.

Good score Mark! I believe 77 was the last year for the "lawsuit" era Ibanez. Some of it is good quality indeed! I picked up a ric 4003 Ibanez copy and it played and sounded just as good as any real ric I played.

Thanks guys, I ordered a ivory switchplate and LP style ivory pickguard.

Also, installing new LP toggle switch, the one in this guitar is bad.

Beautiful! I have a 1981 Ibanes AS-50... it's the 339 copy... plays like a dream. At one point I had decided on buying a 339 or 335 but couldn't find a Gibson that played anywhere near as nice as this old Ibanez.
