HRM - Why are the OD tone pots inside the chassis?

With the ODS, from what I hear, when OD is engaged, ideally you have the PAB on, and fairly likely the Mid boost as well. Since the tone stack in the clean section is now bypassed, wouldn't you want the OD tone stack available on the front panel for easy tweeking? I find it hard to believe that there is only one tone position that works for the OD.

Considering some ideas for next build (HRM).

If you've got the panel real estate for the controls, and can get the wires over there without making the amp go crazy - I'd say external OD EQ would be nice.

I've done it. It works. The amp didn't go crazy or anything. In fact, it's quite quiet. That said, I pretty much set and forget. Next build is going to use internal trimmers.

One nice thing about these amps is they sound pretty good at all panel settings. The internals are a different story and you could easily dial your way into bad tone. Reminds me of the club musician that gets a new amp and sounds great for the first set, not so great during the second set and by the end of the night sounds like he's playing his old amp.

I love the color scheme for that head and the panel fonts. Did you do the woodwork/covering/panel yourself? Matching speaker cab?

Thanks! Yes, I did it myself except for the front panel, which was done by BNP Lasers using artwork I supplied. I did a matching speaker cab as well but I was not happy with the results (too small and lightweight) and it was subsequently cannibalized.

I've recently built some ported (sort of) cabs based on the EV TL806 design (AKA Mes Boogie Theile) and the Port City 'Wave' cab 2X12. I'm really pleased with the way these sound and work with a variety of speakers.

Of course, if the musician doesn't screw it up by the end of the night, the sound man will.
