Fender 5G12 1960 Concert

Post by 67plexi »

I scored this May of 1960 fender Concert amp $100.00
The amp is untouched but it has been messed up with a 15" JBL
tolex bad job It's worth restoring to me. Tested the tubes and plugged
it into a 4 x 10" at 2 ohms sound is good no issues. I striped the cabinet
and will fill all the holes get it ready to re-tolex. I decided to have a new baffle board made.

Sweet score!, that's like finding a dust covered 60's muscle car in a barn and they pay you to haul it away.

Those amps sound absolutely awesome through a D130.

nice find my friend!!
I would check those two output tube sockets closely even on the wiring side as something looks like it going on around there with the dark brown stains!
Does that choke look like it go hot?

The dark brown stains wiped off with lacquer thinner
the tubes were covered with the same substance. I believe it too be second hand smoke. When I look close the choke is way darker on the power tube
side and the tube retainers are dark also.

I must have missed that one when I lived up there :)
Looks great, no funny business other than the wrong speaker.
If you need a correct cabinet or new baffle my friend John Mergili is the best I have ever seen.
Dont know who has the pink tolex. I have heard even the repro dark grill is not 100% accurate these days either, but oh well.

Steve,
John really pays attention to the details. Can't find the dark staples though. He recovered a v front tweed for me and really nailed it. I think he has a video of it. You'll be be happy if you use him. If you just need a baffle he's pretty affordable and fast.

Did I mention you got a nice amp :) the 1x12 vibrolux, yum.

I have been to Juneau a few times. Rained, then rained sideways, and I swear rained from the ground up. Beautiful when the sun comes out.
