TWO ROCK EMERALD PRO REVISITED 5 years later

Post by tag101 »

This amp just fell in my lap. Its one of my old Emerald Pros that went up for sale on TGP, and I got a call from a MR BOB Stirner telling me about it, and how I HAD to buy it back. Well, as a total reflex, I actually did. It arrived today, and I was wondering how it would fair compared to what I remembered. One or two notes slammed me right in the face. The amp is INSANE. It remains the only HRM style amp besides the TwoRock Opal that I really love. It remains the singiest, strainiest amp I have ever played. Instant smile on your face type of tone, that you do not want to turn off. The treble on the HRM has been turned up slightly from stock, and there is as much "chirp" and or "chime" as you could possibly want. So nice to have the separate MVs too. Any volume can be set for cleans, and overdrive, totally indepedent of each other. The one bad thing. After playing the amp for 5 minutes, I noticed a burning smell, and shut the amp right off. I am going to give Andy Fuchs a call and see if he can check it out and see what is going on. In any case, this amp kills. better than Dumble cleans, and OD that while a bit different than 183 and some other Dumbles, can easily hold its own with any of the 12 Dumbles I have played. What a killer, killer amp. TwoRock got it right back in 2001 IMO. Check out this clip. The very first thing I recorded and played with the amp. You can hear how the thing just sings like a bird, and is so alive. What an amp!!!

packing materials? tape? something melted on the power tubes? if it sounds great it's likely nothing "bad"....... I had one of those first amps, they loved telefunken preamp tubes :-)

I thought the same thing, but I cant find anything, and it smells like burning wires. YES! They love telefunkens, especially in V1 and the reverb, and I happen to have about 50 Telefunken 12 ax and 12AT7s. :) They also love GE greenies, and came with them for years. I hope i can dig up a few of them, as its all Russian in there now. Anyway, thanks for the advice, its appreciated. :)

Would it be possible to do another "Politician" take, five years later? ;)

Was it the exact one I have now with all the mods from TwoRock? (dual midboosts, 330/500 cap switch/ dual reverb knobs (one per channel) bright switch dedicated to clean channel, PAB and mid boost on foot switch, large new TwoRock logo on front) I believe I sold it to "Timster" who sold it to the "Chris" who I just bought it from. Maybe you were in there somewhere as well though!

Noooooooo. I bought it from a guy in Michigan. It went to Timster with the glass that it came with. Philips 7891a's as I recall. Don't remember the pre tubes, though.

Who scraped all of the goop off to look at TwoRocks secrets? It was still intact when it left my house the first time! :P

It was "scraped" when I got it. I assumed, at the time, that the scraping was done at TR when you sent it in for the mods.

Here is the Emerald Pro 50 before I scraped it.

It's like every amp is the best one you've ever heard/had. OMFG!, it's the amp of the week, month, year, semi-decade, etc... You lost your credibility with your conflicting opinions and remarks. You took away my ability to believe in your opinion quite a long time ago. Your ability to contradict yourself in public is actually quite disturbing. You have become a parody of yourself! Don't let that parody become a self-fulfilling prophecy...wait too much water under that bridge already. How bout you really offer some useful input and draw up the schematic for that sucker? Now that'd be something that the members here would consider interesting. Yes, we've heard it before...you are too honest to ever do something like that. Yet, you'll pay someone to reverse engineer an amp so they can let the cat out of the bag. It's all so hypocritical. If someone told me your story, I wouldn't believe it. But then again, no one could make this shit up. Yes, I am already aware that I can ignore your posts. But with you, it's like trying to turn your head from a car wreck. There's just too much sick fun watching you crash and burn. They should make you a character in Grand Theft Ampo. But please keep posting each time you find the best amp ever, cause this place gets boring sometimes.
