Not so much of an "experiment" as a drama.

If it were an experiment (not knowing the outcome), he would have made the lens first to establish proof of principle. There's no need to fabricate an entire room to test the technique.

Cute...

I saw the article as a teaser for buying the DVD ..... which I added to my Amazon Wishlist. I look forward to being entertained by an unintended scientific mockumentary.

It's certainly not about science. It's about craft. And a shitload of free time. And having Penn and Teller as pals.

It reminded me of the folks who search out NOS goop to ensure that the dark blue of the RTV is an exact match. Obsessive...yes, but cool.

And unlimited funds.
Let's see....shall I pay my mortgage, or build a Vermeer room?

I'm sorry, but the whole thing is invalid - using paper paste-ups instead of the marquetry on the side of the harpsichord is just wrong.

Might as well just print a wall paper poster of the original painting and apply it to the wall, and use the camera obscura from there.

I don't object to cutting corners; as long as period correct saws and cutting instruments are used. And it goes without saying that the wood must be NOS.

This guy is a genius. A life-size diorama is a much more practical solution for recreating paintings than the time machine I'm building in my basement.

Just kidding, I do have my radial drill press set-up to swing over my lathe bed though.

Fun, but you have to try not to get all "angry nerd" about the non-science BS, and just focus on the compulsive crafting.
