Post by M Fowler »

New Express using Rocking Class Pacific transformers 6K6 OT

Chassis is Ddawg 17x8x2

Reused a Ceriatone Expression tone board.

Made new cap board and bias board.

Will use 68k grid stopper on V1 and 820R-1k V1.

Replaced the .0022uf with .0033uf

80uf, 47uf, 22uf, 22uf, 22uf filter section.

Except for transformers the rest is parts I have lying around.

Cool, are you the first with the Rockin Class? Interested in your thoughts on the transformers once you get it complete. What rocking class transformers did you buy exactly?

How many expresses have you built?

I've built 7 different types of Express amps. This set are the ones you were advertising here on TAG. I can get the numbers and post later.

So Mark - even you are in on the plot to tempt me into building another Express...
Stop it ! Cease & Desist ! I will not do it - so there.
No.
I do have a couple of nice Moose transformers laying around though.
Need a chassis.
As usual I can resist everything but temptation.
Very clean look there Mark.
Thanks for posting.
I think.

Thanks Bob.

There has been so many new builds lately and then the new Pacific dealer posting so I decided to build another Express, crazy.

rjguitars.net still will be my main dealer for all things Trainwreck because he is a great guy and provides a lot for us, thanks rj. :)

I almost installed one of the many trimmer pots you gave me in this amp, maybe next time. :)

I would say, "Shut your pie hole, cbass," but I haven't seen much of 'Tard lately, so carry on.

It is going into this cabinet by Mikey (ampmike) when finished. I should get the faceplate woodburned or engraved.

It sure is a quiet amp and maybe increase from 47pf to 68pf or so to get rid of that fizz.

Actually if you use an 820R from pin #2 to ground you get an even quieter amp... or even better use a piece of #18 bare wire.

Mostly posted because I wanted to follow this thread. All you new guys don't do what I said. Mark is a great amp builder, friend, and all around good guy. We are enjoying the opportunity to give him a hard time. Ultimately I expect this to be a great sounding amp...

What kind of PS filtering are you going to do? Will you create a pure traditional version with the Stack O caps?

Actually pin2 V1 is that wire that goes under the board to the volume control. I think it is a good practice to use that grid stopper (820 ohms) in the express and the Liverpool.

I just asked some questions about tweak, so this is a good thread for me.

What's the result of the 820r resistor and the increase 47pf to 68pf cap. I was also wondering if you've tried different bypass caps on the pre cathodes.

I love the way my new build sounds, but as an experimented, I was wondering how to get a little more crunch and a little less fizz for rhythm playing when the guitar vol knob is up.

Nice looking build
