Trainwreck build - First amp

Hi guys!

First, I'm new to this forum. My name is JP Guerin. I'm from Quebec, Canada. So yes that's why my english is bad ! I'm a mechanical engineer but I'm in love with electronics!! I've built several pedals in the last year and I now want to build a Trainwreck Express.

I ordered my parts from RJ Guitars and I should get them by this week and start my build next week.

I'm going to post pictures through the whole process. Any tips is much appreciated.

I have some questions before I start:

1- What kind of solder are you using? I've only used flux core solder. That's cool?

2- I searched on forum for VVR Installation, pictures and guide but I didn't find what I was looking for. (Dana Hall VVR 3 must be my solution?)

3- I would like to build a 2x12 cabinet. What are your suggestion for speakers?

Is there any picture here to see how pot ground is done? I've seen tab to go through pot shaft, is it the way to go?

I don't understand the "twist tab at the end", why twist it?

Take a look at this one I built. You don't need both tabs.
I think that image you have is showing the options available to you.

I have a Combo amp Hughes & Kettner Dual 6L6. When I'll have to do some test, may I use this cab? 2x12'' Eminence Rockdriver Cream 8 ohm.

How do you think it is going to sound? (this is temporary, I want also to build a cabinet with speaker)

Hey JP, I hope this is off to a good start for you! I missed your first post when it came out. I had a bit of a distraction here last week.... which is really more a perpetual state of mind.

Did you figure out how to do your PEC pot grounds? The explanations you received were correct. you can solder to the tab ends either way.

Fishy - it's good to see you posting again. Hope things are going well down there in the land of sunshine.

Yes, it's either I drill and solder through the tab or I twist the tab and solder on it.

All your parts are in montreal now, I should receive them today or tomorrow!! I'm like a kid..!

Hi!

Am I right to pretend this layout is not correct ? The pin left from the hole should be align at top row? And the one at top right of the hole should be 4 column right. (By column I mean the small holes).

Turrets were made for wrapping; and you can add a connection above or below. Connections on the board itself are semi-foolproof as long as the solder joints are good. It's the lead dress that can get you. Continue to post as you go.
