Ampplates ??

Post by markmalin »

Hi all,

I've bought plates from Joe at Ampplates.com several times. He does great work and I've always been really satisfied with his response. I've been having a really hard time getting ahold of him lately though. It seems to take days (maybe a week) to get a reply to my emails and I have a customer waiting for an amp.

Anyone have any advice?
I like Joe and his work, but for the sake of getting this done, can anyone suggest another vendor?

Thanks!
Mark.

Check out BNP Laser to see if that suits you.

http://www.bnplasers.com/

I have used them a dozen time or more with fast and flawless results. Jeanne is a doll to work with.

Good luck,

I tried getting Joe to make a satin metal faceplate for me recently. His initial response was a tad slow and kind of slow responding with the proof and other changes. In the end he had a problem with the fonts, so I just put the plate on hold.

In the meantime I needed a set of front and rear Marshall style plates for another project so I decided to give Mojo a try. The response was quick and the plates came out great. I'm about to order a set for a Dumble like project.

Thanks guys.

So ....Mojotone does plates, eh?

I'll check out both sources.

I'll give Joe the benefit of the doubt - I figure maybe he's too busy...

I've had some correspondence with Joe in the past and from what I gathered, he's somewhat limited in what he can produce. What I wanted was very basic and based on a classic Vox faceplate that he said he couldn't do. I was surprised, but there are so many fish in the sea of finishing companies. I've loved my dealings with Mojo and they've always treated me right, but I've yet to have them do any faceplates, but I'm sure they'll turn out nice.

I should mention that BNP doesn't, to my knowledge, stock any type of "standard" amp plates. I have only used them to make my own designs.

Good luck Mark,

Thanks, Dave. Mine would be totally custom, so no worries there ;)

I'm having a faceplate done at http://www.labelengraving.com/ . I've been corresponding with Kyle, there. Really nice guy. Very reasonable pricing. I should have the face plate in a couple days, and will post a pic, so you can check out his work. This is my first face plate. I got the site from another poster, here.

Do your plates up on Corel Draw and send them to Jeanne at BNP. Can't go wrong.

Vox and Fender faceplates are usually screened. All of the custom faceplate operations online or all engraving (front or rear on plexi/vinyl; laser on aluminum). This includes Mojo, bnplasers, Precision Design and Front Panel Express. Screened face plates require some an engraver for fabrication and then a print shop to do the artwork. Several people over screened Pelxi and Fender faceplates, but not custom ones.

BTW, I thought BNP did all the actual engraving for Amplates?

Yup. If you search my posts here, you'll see all of my amps have faceplates from these guys. Great service, great product, really inexpensive.

FWIW...

I always use Joe (Amplates) for my projects. I believe BNP actually manufactures his faceplates.

IF you have artwork ready to go.... I think BNP is the way to go...

In my experience...
Joe rarely answers emails on weekends. During the week you will probably wait 24 hrs for a response. I figure that's because he has a job and a family (like me) and does this on the side (like me).

IF you don't want to hassle with vector artwork, Joe's design service is a bargain!! I've NEVER had him turn down/refuse a design request. He IS limited by the normal stock materials/styles of faceplates but that's never been an issue with me.

Good luck with your project!

Thanks, Deric.

Just to follow up, Joe contacted me last night - I guess he's been traveling, but is going to get the proofs ready. So hopefully I can get them done by him since I'm already set up. I did contact Mojo and BNP before Joe got back to me, so it will be interesting to see what they come up with just for comparison.

Mark.

I used Mason Wolak from TMI Amplification for my last build. I was very pleased. It's laser engraved 1/8" thick aspen.
