what amp/Jeff Beck
Hey all
What amp does Jeff Beck use on live at Ronnie Scotts?
I love that tone!! Unbelievable tone as far as I'm concerned. I see he has Marshalls stacked up but I can't see which one is on. I see a smaller Marshall, is that an 18 watter?
Anyway, thank you for any and all info!
Mike

Re: what amp/Jeff Beck
I believe he used a Vintage/Modern and a JTM-45. Most of the gig is the JTM-45 with a Klon to my ears. And yeah, those are some great tones.
Re: what amp/Jeff Beck
If I remember correctly, the smaller one may have been a 20 watt Guitar/Bass head. Not sure if he was using it though - may have been his backup.
I've seen him with Blues Juniors on stage too.
Bottom line is that his tone is in his hands, but it came from outer space.

Saw him last year in a fairly large theater, and he was playing through a cranked pro jr. But, you're right...it is all in his hands.

Kingston NY @ 4 years ago, Jeff was reported to have been using only his aqua color Blues Junior though two 4x12's and a couple Marshall heads were onstage, unused. Wonder if his Juniors are modified?sliberty wrote:I've seen him with Blues Juniors on stage too.
He has uncanny control over his guitar all right, outta space. HOW does he do those crazy things.
down technical blind alleys . . .
Re: what amp/Jeff Beck
Jeff Beck is pure magic. I saw him in Houston in 2010 and at the end he busted out an oxblood LP and did a tribute to LP.

I was sixteen when "Blow by Blow" came out. I was completely floored by "Cause We've Ended as Lovers" and thought that the tone was unique to the guitar used; Tele with Seymour Duncan HB in the neck position.
Then I saw him play it on a Strat, with all the nuances and tonal changes.
The magic is in those fingers, what a master.

Re: what amp/Jeff Beck
Its true of a lot of the masters:
Carlos sounds like Carlos whether he plays an SG into a Twin Reverb or a Yamaha into a Boogie, or a PRS into a Dumble.
Dimeola still sounds like Al even though he doesn't play his Les Paul into his Marshall anymore (PRS into a Fuchs last time I saw him).
A negative example would be Clapton. The tone is in his hands, and his hands have changed. Doesn't matter what gear he uses - he doesn't sound like he did in the mid-late 60's anymore. Although, if you look on YouTube, you'll find some clips of him using a 335, and he sounds SO MUCH BETTER than his usual Strat tone. But it still ain't the old days - he's changed to much.

All the time I was watching him work dynamic wonders with that little fender... I just couldn't help but wonder...what he would sound like with an express! Built and voiced by Ken! Can you imagine?

Re: what amp/Jeff Beck
I really liked Jeffs work with the Jan Hammer group.
I saw Jan Hammers band alone at the Jazz Workshop in Boston and then a month later as Jeffs backup band, yeah right, at the Cape Cod Coliseum. Boy those guys could play and gave Jeff and great sound to play over...

In theory, theory is the same as practice. In practice it's different.

He's gotten away from picks for the most part, but he still uses a pick now and then.
Re: what amp/Jeff Beck
I just seen a gear video for jeff he had a 100watt marshall dsl which the tech said he uses all the time, and then a 2061x marshall 20watter which he'd use if all else fails and then had a 60s super reverb that they said he never uses, but i have seen him playing a blues jr and old old tiny box amps and he sounded great. the tech said the dsl had been used for as long as he could remember mark

His tech talks specifically about what was used on Ronnie Scott's - JTM45.

Line level from a Palmer into Lexicon reverb (pcm70?) then power. They forget to mention all that. He's using amps as front ends only.
