Record Store Day
I've always supported Record Store Day. I value locally owned stores that cater to the needs of their customers and promote local musicians, rather than the corporate McDrivel.

Good job Dad.
Re: Record Store Day
My friend's record store still has some items left over from this(and earlier) RSD.
If you need anything I'll check.

Re: Record Store Day
Wow, a waiting line at a record store!
Not sure I have ever seen that before.
I wish I could afford a decent turntable.
I bought a cheap one and it doesn't work that well.

Re: Record Store Day
My 10 year old son is very into old technology and wants to collect things like turntables and vinyl records. He is disgusted with me for getting rid of all my vinyls before he was born. How was I to know I would have a kid who was into that stuff???
Now I am keeping my eyes open for a decent (but cheap) turntable....
Long Live Analog.

Don't you boys know any NICE songs?
Re: Record Store Day
I still have my record collection lot of good rock albums.
I bought a Nuwmark turntable with usb cable output and software to convert to my computer about 5 years ago. Time consuming but pretty neat.
I want to build tube amp one of these days with 300B tubes.

I need to fix my old pioneer reciever so I can play some records again.
I should probably just sell it they are going for stupid prices on ebay.

Re: Record Store Day
Record Store Day is a commercially created holiday
Special edition numbeted records, colored vinyl, etc.
Intentional manufactured scarcity. Often these records are resold online at several times cost.

Re: Record Store Day
I was Very Luck to see them tour that record...as a 15 year old...in 1975.
I was in awe.! Never seen anybody Write/Play songs like that before.
But...like with Fleetwood Mac, and many other bands, they exist in relative obscurity for several years...write and play their very best material...go through a personnel change...become an "over-night" sensation...make Tons Of Money, and never play to that level again.
But they win awards, sell Zillions of records and T-Shirts to Billions of fans that do not like the best music that the band ever put into grooves.
Oh Well ...

Re: Record Store Day
Another cheer for Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. One of my favorites.
As others have said, Record Store Day was conceived as a way to promote independent record stores. Many artists participate by making special limited edition releases just for this event. People camp out for these collectors items, some to sell them, and some, like my daughter, who has the vinyl bug and has amassed a good collection.
Unfortunately, I succumbed to the stupidity in the eighties and sold over twelve feet of albums, many limited edition, or half speed masters on virgin vinyl. Probably the one I most regret was a live performance by Kate Bush that was recorded direct to disk. On a good system you felt like you sitting in the front row.
A good friend of mine owns a great store in my hometown that has managed to survive the big box places like Walmart and Best Buy, and more recent the digital revolution and iTunes.
This last record store day was his largest turnout ever. So maybe people are remember that the clerk at best buy is probably not the person you want to go to for recommendations.

Re: Record Store Day
I lost all interest after Gabriel left. His song writing is amazing. The lyrics to Broadway Melody of 1974 are just brilliant.C Moore wrote:I was Very Luck to see them tour that record...as a 15 year old...in 1975.
