When one of the lighting crew on the '87 tour, Arthur Smith from Oklahoma, described "noodling" for catfish I thought he was pulling our legs. Not so - now it's becoming more well known. Another bizarre American sport. Let ESPN try to follow this one. For those who don't know - you dive underwater and try to pull catfish out of their hiding spots in stream and lakeside banks, with your hands. At least the cost of gear is nil. I'll bet you still need a fishing license, drat.

Catfistins Illegal here for good reason.Basically you go down to the large females nest She will bite anything to protect her nest.When she goes after your hand you grab onand pull her out. The problem is that these large females are vital to the ecosystem.You are never going to catch one rod and reel cause they rarely come out of there holes.So you are snatching the biggest healthiest females out of the breeding population of a tiny ecosystem.

Thanks for sharing that side of it. I hope the word gets out to the noodlers, but I'm guessing that good sense isn't part of the mix.
