Nevermind.

Please use paragraphs.
My *guess* is that the problem still exists.
A poor connection on pin 2 means that the heater for that tube may not have been functional. That means that that tube was not operating or if it was, only intermittently.
The orange glow--red plating--of the other tube indicates a problem with the bias circuit. If the cold solder joint tube had been fully operational, it too would have red plated.
My next *guess* is that now both tubes will red plate if that problem happens again. It's good that you fixed the cold solder joint but now you also need to go through the bias circuit and make sure it is doing its job.

What?

Jana you been grading student's papers lately.
I would also go from top to bottom on that amp checking every solder joint if the guy's work looks sloppy.

Mark, It's a never ending task!
Yes, I agree, check every solder joint--sloppy work in one place usually means sloppy work in other places.

I would retension the tube socket on pins 5 and 4 and before you place any output tubes back in nake sure that the bias voltage on pin 5 stays in place no matter how much you prob and do the knock the wires ans components around thing!
When I die, I want to go like my Grandfather did, peacefully in his sleep.
Not screaming like the passengers in his car!
Cutting out a man's tongue does not mean he’s a liar, but it does show that you fear the truth he might speak about you!

Also swap tubes and see if the problem stays with the tube as I have had tubes that I had to resolder the pin number 5 in the base, the socket was fine and the bias voltage to pin 5 in the socket was stable, but that darn tube pin drove me nuts for a while!

What is "dignosing"? Is that an alternative safety protocol to keeping one hand in a back-pocket whilst probing a circuit?

Well gee whiz. I thought I was halfway nice and had restrained my inner beach.
What?

I guess women holding soldering irons was a terrifying concept to him.Jana wrote:Well gee whiz. I thought I was halfway nice and had restrained my inner beach.
He was gone before I saw his post, but your response seemed normal.
Hell, lots of others here would have been a lot snappier with him.
