KT66 Rockster Blocking Distortion

Post by jkey04 »

I just recently completed a KT66 Rockster per RJ's schematic and sounds great...

...until I put my pedalboard in front of it. Everything sounds fine with no pedals on, but if i kick and OD or boost on the amp starts some blocking distortion.

What values of grid stoppers would you recommend to start with for the KT66 PA? Or is there another solution that i am unaware of?

Thanks

This evening i opened the amp back up and recorded voltages.

I noticed the V2a plate voltage is a lot higher than what RJ had listed in the original voltage chart for the Rockster. His voltage is 144Vdc and mine is ~225Vdc. The way the schematic is drawn the plate of V2a should be connected straight to B+4. Im a little confused as to what the proper V2a plate voltage should be…

Review the attached file for my voltages.

Thanks!

I built two amps a Rocket and Rockster and both have about 215 volts there. But I don't get that blocking distortion. I used an Edcor 280-0-280 PT for both...
