What do I did?
So I touched the hot on off switch wire to ground on this cheap little Vox tube amp I bought to practice ( and becasue I can't resist anything thsats British racing Green) .
The fuses did not blow. As you can see, one switch wire..the hot I think, runs string to the Power Transformer I think.
Did I probably take out the PT?

Don't touch any hot wire to ground.

These guys are working you over. You'll have to take it.
Did you put that wire back where it belongs and try to turn the amp on? Any smoke? Did something happen when you touched that wire to something? What is making you have cause for concern?
If this is the mains feed from the wall socket, I don't see the problem. Maybe the mains fuse in the amp blew. Maybe the line breaker blew at the box.

heh, yeah. Well, there was a spark when I touched the hot wire to ground..and the amp was off! The hot wire from the switch that I accidentally shorted ( making sure it was connected tightly) runs straight to the transformer.Phil_S wrote:These guys are working you over. You'll have to take it.

All fuses are ok..not burnt. I don't see anything toasted on the amp. The power transformer doesn't smell bad. There was no smoke, and the wire is back where it belong and the amp is dead. Could the switch have burnt up, or probably the power transformer? The AC mains is okay.

Re: What do I did?
You say the amp was off when you got the spark, was it still plugged into the wall outlet?

Re: What do I did?
Are you sure the fuses are OK - did you check them for continuity with a multimeter?

Looks like an AC4C1. If it is I have a purple one.
If you need a voltage reading on any point I can help.

Re: What do I did?
I vote for the switch being toasted ahead of anything else. The switch is easy enough to test for continuity. This time, unplug the mains and discharge the caps just to be safe. Then unplug the switch internally. Put your meter across the switch terminals. Off position should show n/c and on should show approximately zero ohms.
While you've got the switch unplugged internally, check the PT primary for continuity as well.

Re: What do I did?
You have discovered the alternative method to discharge the capacitors in the power supply.
Re: What do I did?
Do this. It's hard to blow trannies, switches, etc. What did you short it with, meter set on current? You should check you meter too, fuse inside, even then...Are you sure the fuses are OK - did you check them for continuity with a multimeter?
Re: What do I did?
Check the sparky lead itself. You may have blown up the connector so that it no longer makes (good) contact with the wire. It may need to be cut off and a new one attached.
