You could spend quite a bit of your valuable time researching, tweaking and coming up with a unique design or modification that has it's place and does exactly what it's intended to do.. There might even be some well deserved hype that surrounds it..Then someone goes and posts it on TGP, or where ever and instantly millions have access to it,so all those hours spent coming up with those great designs or mods are flushed right down the can!!..If you goop it then you catch all kinds of hell for it..I blame the internet..Although I do agree there is no excuse for this blatant disregard for personal property!!..WOW!

oh cm'on ...here we go again ....such a tired up debate .... said on a dumble clone forum it looses it's impact dude ...besides , do you see friedman marsha layouts popping up that often on the net ...yeah maybe he screwed up a little less people ? Maybe you can actually BUY his products on the spot , and be assured you'll be delivered his products ...Don't lecture me about ethics please , i've been ripped off too many times to count ( not in the amplifier field though , but i know the feeling quite well ) ....
Dude back..Let me be clear!!.My intent was not to lecture you on ethics or trying to start a debate (just being sympathetic)..I was simply stating a fact that in the internet age information can be sent to the masses with a singe click!..I never said it was right or wrong just that it's more difficult for amp manufactures and designers to make money and protect there circuit designs..(I am in the guitar amp business!!)" I blame the internet" was my point..Take a look at the files section..Most of those Dumble ODS layouts were done by ME!!

Tony, gotta say I love this sig:

"The laws of physics are the same on your bench as they are on Mr Dumbles"

Somehow meshes with Ken's admonishment to "Use your ears."

Years ago I worked with this quirky brilliant mentor that when anyone would wonder something out loud, his response was always "Science, try it", meaning don't ask, experiment and find the answer for yourself.

That's GREAT..Thanks!!.. That was written out of a bit of frustration.. At the time the mentality around here seemed that Dumble's way was the "Best" and only way, and any other way was the wrong way!
I remember starting a thread way back about how I recommended the tone differences by going to a 250k OD level and how I liked it..Some of the Dumble aficionados were like Oh no it's not the way Dumble did it.. Later on after 183 was unveiled it had a 250k OD level and suddenly it was a great tone..I had to  ...Seriously I am not trying brag about it,(it's no great feat!) just that there was a lesson for me to be learned and thought I would share it.. As you say your ears should always trump Mr Dumbles..Try it

It probably doesn't translate in text, but the way he said it was full of encouragement. Like "I wonder if chocolate dropped into beer would sink or rise"

"Science, try it"

Just to explain this.... Something people don't seem to know......I was very sick for years with Epstein–Barr virus....this amp was done in the last year with this ......if anyone knows about EBV ...at this point I just wanted to die ...you have no energy...you feel worse then like shit....you feel like you ..are..slowly dieing. This amp I'm am NOT happy about...and I think people know I do better work then that....during this time in my life .... I tried to explain to people what was going on...but at that time...even I didn't know what was going on with me....instead people called me a crack head ....a drug addict.....and that I was keeping peoples amps......none of this is true. You guys that keep saying ..I have a friend of a friend or I heard of a guy...or any of that...please get them in contact with me and we will work it out.....but most of the time its a Billy Blades type of guy...someone trying to use my misfortune for his own gain ...all the while copying everything I do.....he never had me do an amp for him.... he still posts lies.... like my amps are made in China and other goofy things...(my amps are made by me in Sun Valley CA).........John Levin...the guitar player in Dokken.... gave me the right info on how to get my health back ......he had been through this......its taken some time and I still need to gain more weight....I can't thank John enough for the help he gave me. Im starting to build the new amps now....but my Dad just passed away....so they won't be done for another month.
If you search the Metro forums ..for the most part.. I posted whats up with the circuit ....no magic or mojo no mystery...I don't get why people care so much.
You could just ask ...instead of posting that picture  What do you guys want to know??

I'm curious what you don't like about your amp. It sounds very good.

Mark, you didn't need to go out of your way to post that, but it's extremely cool that you did. I for one have a lot of respect for you and your work. Building amps takes a lot of focus and energy, and I can't imagine the stress of trying to do that while ill. Really sorry to hear about that, and good luck!

Personally I'm inclined to believe that DIY and hobbyer group, that is capable of modifying amplifiers by themselves, is way too small to introduce a financial thread to commercial ventures.

Also, while I do feel for guys like Mark, he is also a great example of a major issue in "one-man" operations: You're out, you're entire business is out too. This is what everyone investing money in such ventures should keep in mind. How does the guy handle building his products if he can't do it himself? Will he just stop doing it alltogether and remain owing money to people, or will he, at worst, even take financial losses, hire people to help him and, by some means, deliver the products people paid for. It's business after all.

What you can't have a mediocre tattoo shop and amp business under the same roof?

IMHO, Billy did nothing but prostitute and slander the honest guys like Mark, Friedman and others. He sure made a stink at Sloclone and other forums, and calling him a moron is too gentile... Yes, thanks Mark, it is good to hear you are on the road to better health. Rock on.

I have one of the original prints of the Trader Vic Bartending Recipe book.In the forward, Vic Bergeron comments on why he put all of his original recipes in the book instead of treating them as an trade secrets. He simply says that secret isn't in the recipe, "anyone can create a great new drink, the hard part is marketing it."

It really isn't all that different. Unless you develop a process you can patent, there are no protections for circuits. If someone is hoping exclusivity will keep the cash-flow running, what happens if the secret gets out?

Selling anything is about building a brand. Victoria sure didn't have secret circuits, and I remember a time when they would occasionally sell their proprietary iron to the DIY'er. If Matchless or Dr. Z had to worry about their circuits leaking out to stay in business, they would really be in trouble.

^ I have to agree. Look at Boogie. Their circuits aren't anything super secret. It's all about convincing the potential buyer that you have something that's worth it.

Although I'm no businessman, I'd imagine the same thing goes for any type of product.

Guy's really..Different people will have different opinions on the matter of circuit protection..People who are in the business and people who are not!!..So for the sake of a heated argument that never get's resolved (on a DIY builders form) let's try to keep our opinions to ourselves..In my post I was only saying that in the internet age it's far more difficult for those who want to keep there work proprietary (which Mark was trying to do!).Being amp builders ourselves we should at least have some respect for those who are in the business of building amplifiers to pay the bills and feed there families how can you blame them for trying to protect their hard earned work!!

There are companies who protect their circuit designs, and companies that don't

There's so much more to building a great amp than just knowing the circuits!
