NGD 'Surfboardcaster'
I just picked this up this afternoon. Have yet to fully put it through its paces, but it has a nice satisfying thunky clean sound when palm-muted with lots of reverb.
Maker's description: "Mahogany body, Paduak stripes (an African hardwood). maple neck (25 1/2 inch scale), rosewood board, Gotoh tuners, 3 times P90 pickups, switched through Jansen Invader switch plate, Schaller roller saddle bridge, Souped up bigsby style trem, Volume and tone on another jansen plate, Switches for phase on the middle pickup and two types of tone (honky and deep)"
The story behind the significance of the 'Jansen' parts, is that Jansen were a local musical instrument manufacturer from 1960s to 1990s in NZ, but were phased out of that line of business after tariff protection was removed on imports in the late 1980s. Their old guitars are prized collectors pieces here and the guy who made this guitar uses components formerly used by Jansen (such as the pickup selectors, vol and tone plate, jack plate, headstock string tee etc) FWIW.

Absolutely beautiful.
Three P90's and a Bigsby? My Strat head just exploded.

Nice axe. It's about the right time now for the retro heavy brass come back
Re: NGD 'Surfboardcaster'
Notes from the Zappa video:
1) He actually demonstrates that a guitar can be tuned without an electronic tuner. [1]
2) He uses one of those coiled extra long guitar cords, apparently without giving a damn about whether his tone is bleeding off.
He was an icon and I think sorely missed.
[1] Something I really appreciate. I played cello through my high school years. It is an instrument that uses wood friction pegs. The object is to tune slightly above the note to allow for slippage while establishing the requisite friction, so it settles in just right. We didn't have e-tuners in the '60's. You tuned or the other people in the orchestra stopped while you did.
Nice bit of footage. Thanks, Ken.
