Cool man. What chassis is that?

Re: 15 watt Liverpool Combo Build
The chassis is a 18watt combo blank chassis that I had a local sheet metal shop bend up for me. I also had a local retired cabinet maker build me a couple of 18watt 2 x 12 combos cabs a while back that I tolexed myself. I test fitted the chassis in the cab last night and everything looks good so far. I am trying to figure out the tube spacing. It should work out about the same as the 18watt except I am using 2 JJ can style multi caps and I am putting one in the stock location for the cap in a 18watt and the other I am going to try and put where the 6CA4 recto use to be since I am using SS diodes.skyboltone wrote:Cool man. Hey Dana,
Where do you get you board material. I've been looking around for a 'perf board' like that but can't seem to find anthing that cloe enough.
Cheers, Mike

I have a jig and make it myself. Yes, all of those holes are drilled by hand. I do up a few pieces from time to time and sell them. If your interested just PM or email me. I am just finishing up 4 sets for this weekend. 3 are already accounted for.

Re: 15 watt Liverpool Combo Build
Very nice. I have a nephew in the precision sheet metal business. I'm gonna send him the drawings from the files section of the express chassis and the dumble and see what he can do. He says they punch all the holes on the flat sheet, then the cnc slices up the sheet and they drop the things into the bender. The only hand operation is welding the corners. I'd consider buying a spool gun and a little wire feed welder and doing the corners myself if I felt I could recover the cost of it eventually. I don't want to compete with Brandon or anybody else for that matter but I know a nice 17 X 8 X 3 generic chassis would be nice to have access to. Hammond and Bud are just too light. I've even though about a 24" box brake too. I enjoy that kind of work and would go ahead if I could recover the costs.UR12 wrote:The chassis is a 18watt combo blank chassis that I had a local sheet metal shop bend up for me. Don't ya know that I have been eyeing that Box brake at Harbor Freight everytime I go in there

Re: 15 watt Liverpool Combo Build
I got the tube sockets, fuse holder and caps mounted on the bottom of the chassis. I think that's the last of the drilling and punching. Thought it might be a good time to test fit the chassis in the cab and look at clearances. I'll start doing some wiring in between football games this weekend.
Re: 15 watt Liverpool Combo Build
Nice looking amp Dana, I can't wait to hear how it handles the vibrations/microphonics! If it works well, I can see a whole new generation of high gain 1X12's

Hi Dana!
I bet this is gonna be one nice little screamer
just fo interest: Have you taken any measures to decouple the amp chassis a bit from the enclosure?
One of my amps (WEM Dominator) uses some kind of rubber washers...
Ciao

I sure hope so, but like all prototypes you really don't know what you have until it's finished. I had given some thought to vibrations but was thinking more along the lines of mounting the tube sockets with rubber gromets. I might have to take a look at decoupling the cab as that's not a bad idea. I guess I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. Thanks for bringing up the idea. May be something I have to try
I got the AC part of the power supply wired up last night and hope to finish a bunch of the wiring today.
Re: 15 watt Liverpool Combo Build
I have an express clone that I built in a 1-12 combo. Really no vibration issues. The thing I like about it is that it really knocks the apparent volume down a bit, compared to my closed back 2-12 cab.
Re: 15 watt Liverpool Combo Build
Hey Dana, how's that build going?
I'm really curious to know wether that little 15w will sound as great as the 30w version... keep us posted
Thanks

Re: 15 watt Liverpool Combo Build
I’m still plugging away at it. Kind of slow going at the moment, but I have the power supply wired up and just finished up the heater wiring and the bottom of the preamp board wiring last night. I moved the 1.5k grid resistors to the board like on the 18watt Marshall, so I'm still working on a few layout logistics as I go. Just looked like a better way to do it in a combo. I am ready to start wiring the tube sockets. I always like to get to a point where I can flip the power switch and see those tubes light up.riscado wrote:Hey Dana, how's that build going?

Wonder how Dartanion is coming along on his?
Bigtone96.
Thanks for the vibration info on your combo. It makes sense that the TW is probably a little more sensitive to vibration but lets face it Mesa has hi gain combos and so does a lot of other manufacturers. I may be wrong but I don't think it is going to be a problem that can't be solved or turns out to be as bad as it is percieved.
Re: 15 watt Liverpool Combo Build
Congratulations on all the milestones, especially your anniversary. It's so good to see a couple stay together that long these days.
