What to build with 2 el34s
I have a beat up audiomaster 11a amp laying around. Was going to ebay it bit I was thinking I could use the trannys for a new dumble style amp, the question is which one. Like a lot of people I like the larry carlton, (90's) robben ford sound. I have a dlite clone now with 6v6 but I don't think it sounds that much like a dumble.
Re: What to build with 2 el34s
Probably the #102 ODS Robben Ford amp for that honky tone.
Re: What to build with 2 el34s
looks like that one has 4 el34s. how involved would it be to convert to 2 output tubes?

50w transformer set.
Follow the Ceriatone 50w version for guidance.

I don't think you have enough real estate for a Dumble build -- at least if it is the like the one I've saw where the transformers take-up 3/4 of the surface. The iron might be fine but you will certainly need a different chassis with room for another preamp tube and a buttload of caps. Lead dress matters a lot on these things. A crammage experiment might hum like it doesn't know the words. My first instinct for hack-butchery would be something along the lines of a Route 66 but with the EL34s. sh

I agree the transformers are huge. I would fab up a custom chassis for it.

What about the 3rd gen ODS 50 watt, would that get the tone I'm after?

I must be thinking of something else. My experience was with a monoblock like the one attached. A friend of a friend had a pair hooked-up for stereo with a pair of Klipsch Heresy speakers. Not a hacker's delight. sh

Re: What to build with 2 el34s
that looks a lot like mine but mine is not as pretty. The chassis got dropped on one end and bent it a bit and the paint is toast, but the transformers should be fine. My dad got it at a garage sale for like 5 bucks and it's been collecting dust in my house for several years. If I had two of them I would restore it and use it for music, but I have a fisher 500b for that anyway.

the mayer amp might be cool.

Re: What to build with 2 el34s
There are some threads here about testing transformers. Do that first. If they are toast, don't build an amp around the layout. If the internals match the schematic and what was 110 volts is now 122 volts, you are probably looking at 440-450 VDC on the plates.

The Mayer amp is very cool but it does not have the RF/LC honky tone.
