Mike,

Terrible news, but just glad no one in your family or you were hurt. Hopefully the cause will be found.

Mike -

It is a Blessing that your family is safe, and that you could get as much warning as you could.

When you are at a point (weeks, months) where you can begin an inventory of what you had (particularly, your most used tools), I'm a scrounger. My wife and I love to do antique shopping, and tools are my first sources to check for. I'm not a woodworker, but I can find such easily with enough description or pictures.

So, if you don't mind old/quality (mostly what I look for), I may be able to help with locating. Then, your 'new' shop will feel more like it belongs.

Very sorry to hear about your shop, Mikey. It is a terrible, scary thing to have a fire or other disaster in the house. I know, as we've had both a fire and a tree through the roof. No lives were lost and no people or pets were harmed. That is what's really important. The rest will sort itself out in time. Do your best to stay focused on doing what needs to be done.

Don't be hasty with the insurance settlement. Be sure the claim remains open until you have listed every loss, no matter how insignificant. Once you reach the deductible, every nut and bolt adds to the amount of the settlement. You've paid the insurance all these years and now it is there for YOU. The insurance company will tell you a claim can be re-opened and this, IMO, is something that you want to avoid. Do your best to get it all done in one claim.
