Hacking apartment complex automatic gate

Post by beasleybodyshop »

My apartment complex wants 50 dollars security deposit for one of their stupid gate clicker things. Screw that. Chances are, they would never give me money back. So I came up with this idea

How can i hack the gate without one of their remotes?

My complex is kind of old, the clicker looks like one of those old late model chevy lock/unlock remote. I am assuming that it is sending an IR or a radio signal to a receiver near the gate. Couldnt I make my own variable IR/radio transmitter and just "dial" it in until it reaches the right frequency for the gate?

Just food for thought.

It might be possible to buy a remote that learns the transmitted commands from another remote. Then all you have to do is persuade one of your neighbors to let you borrow their remote long enough to copy it into the new one. This might work, and it might not....

I would only want to do this if I could include a tube in the remote

Most remotes are programmed with a simple dip switch.

You just need to open the cover and see the settings on either a remote or the init.

Buy a generic remote and it should work.

We need detailed gut shots and voltage measurements before we can help you further.
What?

Don't stop there. A schematic as well.

By the time this thread is done, he'll have a 4 tube Stancor-powered remote custom-painted in a Hammond #70011 enclosure covered in Amplified Nation tolex!

Some cars have the remote built into the visor. You just need another remote to program it. I would assume a portable device exists.

Buy a "learning remote" or use the one built into your car (if it has it). Borrow you neighbor's remote. Program yours with your neighbor's. Spend your $50 on tubes. Most of these remotes are the same as garage door opener remotes.

If its an older system it probably won't work with a newer opener they work on different frequencies

Approach the problem from another direction. Rather than trying to find the one frequency that'll open the gate ...... transmit on ALL frequencies and open everything (garage doors, gates, ceiling fans, TVs, etc) in a half-mile radius.

I like this idea.

My inner scofflaw say YES!

My inner cheap ass also agrees. I would rather spend 50 dollars on tubes.

its a "Door King" automatic gate.

Maybe I should call the manufacturer and get a schematic.

You might as well add extra functionality to turn on/off all the city street lights with your remote too. Here's an online tutorial:
