Thank you Birmingham Good Hope Hospital
For managing to get a ambulance and paramedic out to me in minutes after I had a severe anaphylactic attack this morning, I was shocked to be told a few minutes more and I would be meeting my maker now, I have no history of allergy's and am now comfortable at home recovering, my thanks go to the NHS staff who are seldom recognised and much maligned by British media

YIKES!
I have en Epi-Pen I'm supposed to keep on my person (but don't). My mother almost died from red-ant stings. So I can relate. But I can't relate to you suffering that without any warning or indication (no allergic diagnosis). That's damned scary!
Glad you are alright! Praise to the hospital and emergency staff! Respect!

Certainly gave me a wake up call, I look like a pin cushion at the moment from various bits pushed in my arms and from having blood and allergy tests, the worst part was the sheer panic as it happened, I was out on site working and the customers were very quick thinking and also deserve my gratitude, it certainly put the fear up my wifeNickC wrote:YIKES!

Glad you're still with us! Do you know what caused it?
Re: Thank you Birmingham Good Hope Hospital
Anaphylactic shock is some scary sh*t.
I have been a witness and prompt medical attention is the life saver.
Thank god you are still with us.
What was your allergy to?
Worse yet if it was a surprise.
Stay well.

the suspect is a prescribed pain killer called diclophenic, I have it for the pain in my knees if it gets to bad, its apparently not unusual but I have been using it on and off for 3 years with no side effects, funny thing the body is, I always thought my job was the most likely thing to try and wipe me out , as I said a real wake up callmartin manning wrote:Glad you're still with us! Wow, glad you are OK Jet.
Strange that you would have that reaction to a drug you have taken before?
This all falls into auto immune reactions.
Most of the times docs don't even know what causes such reactions.
You find this out when you experience a bad symptom.
I found that out when I was 40 years old and was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis.
Look that one up, similar to Crohn's Disease.
I saw a guy get stung by a honey bee at work one day.
We didn't know he was allergic and he couldn't tell us much once he was gasping for air.
Luckily someone called 911 early and they were close by.
Scary stuff when you can't catch your breath.

Been there. Glad to hear they got you before something worse happened.
I am not supposed to get stung by certain insects anymore. I have no idea how they decide when enough is too much, and like I have control over wasps and hornets? Nope. I don't.

I'm in the same boat as Miles with the sting venom. I stepped in a hornet's nest a few years ago and I surely thought I had bought the farm. Like Nick, I'm supposed to carry the epi-pen everywhere, but I don't. Allergy is a peculiar thing. Sometimes it takes repeated exposure to trigger a reaction. It's scary.
I'm glad you're OK and that you were with someone who knew the right thing to do.

And how weird is it that a single peanut can kill somebody.
It is amazing how many auto immune diseases exist now, and they don't know shit to shinola about what causes it.

Jimmy Carter was a peanut farmer. Coincidence? I think not.Structo wrote:And how weird is it that a single peanut can kill somebody.

I am not supposed to carry anything. I am not supposed to be stung again.
Bees are fine. I have probably been stung by 2000 bees. I can't get stung by a wasp, a hornet, or several types of spiders. We'll see how it goes.

Miles, sounds like you should have a "stab kit" at hand in case you get stung by a non-bee. Talk to your pharmacist &/or MD. No foolin'. OK?Reeltarded wrote:I am not supposed to carry anything. I am not supposed to be stung again.

Tom, for those sensitive enough, even a fraction of a peanut can do it. A tiny dab of peanut butter, what's left behind from using the same knife in the jelly jar when making a PBJ, is enough for those sensitive to it. Heckuva "allergy", that.
