The taste of different insulation colors varies.
It's really a taste thing.
Early Marshall amps used pink cos it was cheap.
No-one in the UK would buy it cos pink insulation tastes like goats ass.
Or so I've been told.
I got a whole amp together without any testing because I followed the schematic perfectly and only on start up discovered I had used Twizzlers for the heaters.

No, not building a Dumble (my thread was in no way intended as a jab at the recent want to build a Dumble thread). This is a brand new Metro Amp plexi that I am experimenting with wire colors to change the tone (that should give an idea for the inspiration for this thread).
Miles,
Was it cherry or strawberry Twizzlers? It does make a difference.
I don't think the flavor of Twizzlers matters. They are gross and stick to your teeth like fake plastic vegetable glue. They also don't have the current capacity to use as heater wires.

It happens. A lot of people think the women folk aren't much good with tools and that silvery shiny stuff that melts.
I don't think that way, it's just it's rare. There used to be a fabulous guitar tech locally. She did the best set-ups, rewiring, trems, fretwork, everything. Sadly, she didn't get enough business hereabouts and relocated to Nashville.

Ooohh, in all seriousness, I'm going to follow that build closely. Prolly onlr about 6 months of winter build time left...
Seriously, I believe that the color of wire used can influence the tone of the amp, by influencing the musician. So it either needs to be visible, or some external notification provided, example: "Purple nomex equipped".
It's just like with guitar picks. I know my yellow Tortex picks have a different tone than the green ones!
John,
I was kidding about the Metro Amp. I don't have one of those. I am so full of it lately, lol.
Armillary,
I was kind of worried after the thread got going that the instructor who posted about the Dumble would think this was about him. It's not and I'm glad you brought it up.
This thread was just for fun and to relieve some frustrations. I suppose at the core the inspiration is really about me. Over the years I have spent so much time tweaking parts that really had no effect on the tone. And once I tweaked it, then I would spend hours thinking about it and wondering if I should un-tweak it because maybe it was better in the first place. Granted, I have learned a lot along the way, but I also butchered some good amps.
Very well said Jana. I for one enjoyed the comic relief, hopefully the new builders will understand the thread context. Understood about the metro, I was hoping to see another fine example of your builds and lacing. Take care and stay warm.
