I love those old Mosrite looking guitars! Man, all those super nice mics and he just bounces them around in wooden cubbys.... Poor windscreens.
That robot mic? Excellent idea! All it needs is another lever that adjusts its axis, then it would have it all. I remember watching a video somewhere, some guy had an iso box with a mic stand poking out the side so he could move the mic anywhere from center to outer and thought it was the most amazing thing ever. I thought, eh, could be cooler.
I used to experiment a lot with recording, not quite as much these days. Mic placement it hugely critical! XYZ axis' as well as the axis of the mic itself, and even where on the speaker in relation to the rest of the physical cabinet you place the microphone. It's an enormous consideration of possibilities, and they all sound different!
So heck yea!

NO Assistant with gun muffs and earbuds, if not myself. I do all the loud amps myself and if you touch my mics I am going to kill you
Here is a tip on how to point a mic. Put your face down there and find the loudest, fullest hiss. The mic diaphram belongs in that 1" area.
There have been robot servo drive mic stands for 25 years, unsuccessful and unreliable. Fun project, fun to use. They don't make Grammys.

I want one that looks like Gort and aims it's laser eye where it's hearing.

Re: Mic Robot?
I've been thinking about making something like that, a friend of mine develops processing chips that many folks use for robots and next time I visit him I was gonna pick his brain. I was thinking something with a camera and controllable with keyboard strokes you could also assign presets so if something sounds good you could A/B or return to something later. Then I started considering 6 way arms that could go off axis and do drum overheads etc...
Re: Mic Robot?
Or you could just hire me to pick the amp up and Hold it in different positions relative to the mic.
I'm not very talented but I try to make up for it by lifting stuff.

Re: Mic Robot?
Anybody seen the Marshall 4x12 cab spinner?
It rotates the whole 4x12 faster than a leslie.
At least it did when I saw it.

My thoughts exactly. I found that truly cringe-worthy. NOS dust caked into mic diaphragms anyone?Meat&Beer wrote: ......... Man, all those super nice mics and he just bounces them around in wooden cubbys.... Poor windscreens..........

that's how you create vintage mics…NickC wrote:My thoughts exactly. I found that truly cringe-worthy. NOS dust caked into mic diaphragms anyone?Meat&Beer wrote: ......... Man, all those super nice mics and he just bounces them around in wooden cubbys.... Poor windscreens..........
I usually will do more than 1 mic on a 4x12 cab and blend them.
