Anyone else make mead?
The outer two are the same recipe: honey, orange, raisins, cinnamon, and cloves. The difference in color comes from burning the honey.
The middle is just honey, orange, and ginger. However, there are 3 different kinds of honey. Had some extra burnt honey so I put it in there, also used some solid raw honey and then used some of the other non-burnt honey.
Should be ready within a couple of months!

I love the scene in the film The 13th Warrior, when after a fierce battle, the Viking leader explains to the Muslim that mead is distilled from honey, and isn't beer or wine which is forbidden to him.

That's stupid. Muslims believe in Jesus (whose first miracle was turning water into wine), but I guess it should be translated as "grape juice."
And technically, mead is honey wine.
I think I'm missing the point.
You guys should try making some. The stuff you buy from the store is crap often times. Cheaper than making amps. Most expensive part is the honey.

Re: Anyone else make mead?
I bottled 9 gallons of 4 year old mead in December 2013.
Another year or so...

Jeez. What kind of stuff are you making that needs to be aged that long?

I used to brew, and back in the day I wrote a number of articles for Zymurgy and Brewing Techniques. I never got around to making meade, though; I guess I'm just not that fond of it.
Re: Anyone else make mead?
I've always wanted to brew .
My great grandad was one of the very few people to make beer during prohibition One of my grandads jobs was to climb trees and get hops
Grandpa told me some wild stories about it all

Start brewing then. Mead is one of the simplest, cheapest, and most versatile things you can possibly brew.

Re: Anyone else make mead?
I've been wanting to try making mead. I've been brewing beer for several years and I am totally into it. Seems like a perfect companion hobby for guys who like to build their own guitar amps. I just move to 3 irrigated acres in Colorado, and will be growing a bunch of hops next year.
I'd love to try growing CO's newest legal crop, but I don't think the wife would go for it. So hops it is. BTW, pot and hops are botanically related, but smoking hops won't get you high. Trust me. Just gives you a headache and a sore throat.

Don't you boys know any NICE songs?

Yeah. Basically anything fun and expensive that I can do myself interests me.

But you can graft hop stalks to cannabis roots - & brew away. There's a local brewery around here that makes an IPA that smells like sweet skunk, very interesting brew indeed!boots wrote:pot and hops are botanically related, but smoking hops won't get you high.
down technical blind alleys . . .
